Receiver will transmit t.v. sound but no picture

All my other t.v.'s in my house work right after we had a fierce lightning storm. If I hook the t.v. directly to the cable box and bypass the receiver, everything's o.k. but, of course my home stereo system won't work. My H.D. DVD system, which goes through the receiver will transmit sound but also no picture so I know the receiver is the problem. Any thoughts?

Maybe the video portion of your receiver was fried by the lightning. The good news is, you don't need it!
I run all my video sources (sattelite, xbox and dvd player) to my TV with hdmi cables, and a single toslink(optical) from the televison to my 5.1 home theatre receiver. it sounds great and I only use a single input of the receiver for all my video.

If your setup does not have toslink themn use coaxial digital. it is also one wire and probably is indistinguishable in sound quality.

for future, run the power for all your electronics through a UPS or fancy surge supressor to protect them from bad power (and lightning)

What does it mean when one reads FD in the panel and the lights on the panel aren't stable?

The control board to your range may have been damaged because of the lightning storm. It happens when lightning strikes a power line and sends a surge of power to your home. This large current surge can easily damage electronic circuits. More often than not if a device is on and lightning strikes, that is when the device gets damaged. During large lightning storms it is best to turn off all electronic devices. The electricity going to your house is fine now and that is probably what your electrician checked.

Onkyo tx-sr604 help

You said you tried hooking the HDMI up directly from the TV to each component, and that worked. How is it usually hooked up - through some kind of switch? I'm not completely understanding your setup here.

I have a new cobra 148 with ssb, about 6 months old, while i was away there was a storm, now the radio doesnt work , recieve or transmit, i also have a cobra 29 ltd that wont transmit but it will recieve....

make sure the mic is good. If for some reason the mic went bad, it will not receive or transmit.

As for the one with no receive, it most likely needs a new final.

If lightning hit your antron, it would be in pieces.

After my house was it by lightning my Onkyo

If your receiver was connected to any power source and that power source was not a surge protector strip there may be damage to the receiver as lighting travels. Another thing to consider is the fact that many people will put their equipment on surge protectors but the cable is still connected to the TV etc...This is just another avenue for the lightning to get into the home and blow up your system. I always disconnect any cable from my computer and TV. The power source from the wall is also unplugged when there is a storm just to be sure. Surge protectors are limited in their use as well. I don't believe they can take too many lightning hits. It is best to change them out.

TV turns on, but no sound or picture from any of the inputs

I don't know if I had any lightning, but it is possible because my DVR/Cable box was operating on limited capacity right before this started. I unplugged everything to reset the DVC/Cable box, and when I turned the tv on, I got real tv sound for a few seconds and then a "no signal" message in the center of the screen. This happens every time I turn it on. It is not the DVR/Cable box because I hooked it up to another tv and it works fine. It's not a bulb because I would still get sound...like this other person, none of my inputs will pick up the cable. I really don't want to just have a random service person in here to charge me to figure it out if someone can lead me down the right path to getting it fixed. Please help, I love this tv and don't want to replace it. LH
