Microwave still runs when door is open

Microwave does not pause when door is open. Have to hit cancel to stop and then have to enter cooking time again.

  • rohant3 Jun 18, 2009

It is a combination microwave. But it should not run when the door is open to check food. Timer is still going even though door is open. You have to hit end or cancel and then add time again to cook food

Is this by any chance a combination microwave? It is is-what you are hearing/seeing is the fan running to cool it down. If it is not a combi then indeed you hav a problem-probably linked to the door catch.

Is the turntable still turning? If it is, then you may indeed have the microwave still running. If it is just a whirring noise and the turntable has stopped then it is only the fan which continues running for about 5 mins or so depending how hot ithe micro is. On my combi the same applies-timer should pause at where it was on opening the door tho so if you opened it with 4.59 mins remaining then it should read the same when you close the door again? If it is running as you think with the door open then it is obviously dangerous!

Not heating

Hello

Power Supply

Check whether there is a proper power supply. Look to see whether the cord is connected to a grounded 3-prong outlet and the cord is fully plugged in. If the electrical system is built-in and no power cord is visible, replace or reset the household fuse or circuit breaker.

Microwave Functions

Some basic microwave operational steps may affect whether the microwave is heating. Open and close the microwave door, as the unit will not function with the door open, and push "Stop/Clear" to cancel any previous settings, such as the timer, which do not heat the microwave oven.

Setting the Microwave

Once the power to the microwave has been reset, or verified as working, and the microwave is ready to run, select a new cook cycle and press "Start" to see if the microwave begins to run and cook food as expected. Allow the food to cook for the alloted time and then open the microwave door and check to see if the food has cooked or heated. Choose a longer cooking time and restart the microwave if food is heating but is cooking slowly.

Repair

If all efforts to troubleshoot the function and power to the microwave still do not get the appliance heating food as expected, there may be a repair issue that needs to be addressed. Contact professional technician for advice.

Model 565.60512000 manufactured 3/2000. there is a L besides the time. I have lost the manual so do not know how to unlock. Instead of seeming locked, I can enter cook time but then the microwave turns...

HELLO.

The problem with your microwave's touch pad needs some simple troubleshooting steps to rectify the problem.

1 Check the power supply. Make sure the microwave is firmly plugged into a working electrical outlet and that your wall outlet is active if your home uses outlets controlled by a wall switch. Check your home's fuses or circuit breakers to ensure they have not been tripped. Without power the microwave will not respond to any input.

2 Make sure the parental lock is inactive. Some ovens, like the one shown in the image above, feature a keypad lock to prevent children playing with the controls. Most keypad locks can be cancelled by holding down a button or combination of buttons for a few seconds.

3 Make sure the door is firmly closed. Some microwave ovens will not allow any control panel input if the door is open.

4 Remove the microwave from the power, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in. This will reset the microwave oven if there is a temporary problem with the software.

5 Press the "Stop/Cancel" button several times to cancel the current operation and return the microwave to standby mode. Re-enter your cooking instructions using the keypad as usual.

Thanks.

Microwave oven

Quite often this is due to a bad door switch. Opening the door while cooking (without first hitting the STOP pad) is the primary cause of door switch failure. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383 Feel free to contact me directly if you have further questions. Microwave runs when door open

This is probably a a bad door switch or door switch mount. Chances are only the fan and light are running when you open it, but better safe than sorry. Opening the door while cooking (without first hitting the STOP pad) is the primary cause of door switch failure but not the only one. I have a text file called "doorsw.txt" which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems, and a file called "safety.txt" which is of vital importance. You can find these files by searching at Yahoo.com (not Google) for this: microwave display safety.txt If you still have a problem, please write back with more detail. Be safe!
