Pieces of matal broke off under agitator in washer

possible loose belt or cogs under agitator broke

Have you checked for any damage on the lid switch at all? Washers won't engage the cycle you're having issues with if the lid switch is faulty. usually a magnet or plastic piece that pushes down the piece to engage agitation.

Number 310 probably is stripped out. Mounted under the agitator this is called a drive block/bell.I believe the part comes with a new bolt also. This plastic piece has splines inside that slip onto the tranny. Over time the splines wear smooth and the washer will not agitate. To get to it you yank off the agitator:

Get 2 2x2 pieces of wood or 2 oak handles, 20 inches long. lay on on top of the other on the top of the washer. Loop a rope or ******** both sides of the agitator over one of the pieces of wood and tie it to the top piece of wood. Twist the top piece of wood slowly. As the 2 loops tighten up under the agitator the bottom piece holds the rope firmly across the top of machine. This save you from getting socked in the face by the agitator when it come off. You can buy an agitator remover but why not make you one and have so much fun doing it See the pic below? just ease a stick above the 2x4 and start slowly twing till she jumps out. Note: I didn't make this design I found it on line. I would run the rope under the agitator instead of taking a chance on breaking the fins. But that's just me.The trick is to grab it by the neck instead of the base. So try that before concocting a agitator remover. The agitator just snaps on. Remove the agitator top cap, and unscrew the mounting bolt part way. Pull up on the agitator by both sides of the rim, then finish removing the bolt after the device is loose. (Keeps you from smacking your face when the agitator comes loose.) Hope this helps.

if the unit is just a few months old the agitator has not seised the the shaft. the very top of the agitator should unscrew and with a little effert you should be able the lift the agitator off the shaft collect the jewlry and put it back together all should be find

The dogs are broke on the agitator. Need a new set of dogs.......(duh ...not the barking kind, it's part of the agitator) Agitator has two pieces. It is the top piece.

The motor coupling has broke , it is a small plastic rubber piece you can see under the unit that connects the motor to the gear case. very common problem about $120.00-150.00 to have repaired or $20.00 or so for you to replace. they are not simple but not to difficult to do.

you can remove the agitator. there are 3 steps to this. 1.take off the top plastic part of the agitator. 2 remove secondary plastic piece from inside of agitator 3. there will be a 7/16 bolt inside and will be deep so you will need a long extension to reach it. hold the fins of the agitator and remove the bolt with a ratchet. once the bolt is out you will be able to lift the agitator up.

the agitator comes out..... by simply taking off the cup that holds fabric softner, just pull upward if needed wiggle and pull. under that you will see a raised plastic piece the raised plastic pc is pulled of by using a pliers pull upward under this you will find a bolt 1/2 or 9/16 socket remove bolt and pull out agitator same way by wiggling and pulling upward
