I have a single OVEN KitchenAid Architect Series KEBC107KSS. Recently, after my wife used the self cleaning cycle, the oven quit heating. Everything else works. The control panel beeps normally and the proper indicators and lights light up when the functions are pushed. The convection fan in the back wall of the oven turns. But, we cannot get any heat. I suspect a sensor or thermostat of some type. Any suggestions on where to trouble shoot?
After reading the above, here is how I fixed my KEBS177DSS9
I pulled out the wall oven from the cabnet. Took off the back tin panel about 10 tin screws. Follow the wire from both heating elements. They are both connected to a thermo fuse. When using the self clean feature this fuse protects the oven from over heating and starting a fire. I put a jumper wire from the hot lead on the left and connected it to the 2 leads on the right side. I turned the power back on and turn the oven on to bake at 350 degrees. Yep It worked like a charm. I bypassed the thermal fuse and used the oven, until the new thermal fuse was ordered. If you have any questions about this fix email me at [email protected] Good luck
I have the KA wall oven, model #, KEBC107SS, one yea old, and quits working after everytime I use the self clean feature. Mine is under warranty and is being replaced, hopefully by the warranty company, however, I have done a lot of online research and found that hundreds of people have had this problem with KA ovens, and KA has hung them out to dry, and refused to admitt there's a problem, and leaves customers with an oven that they can't clean. This is completely unacceptable.
Any Canadians here who'd like to help me fight this corporate giant and stop them from abusing consumers this way, please contact me via email.
Also, anyone know if there is a KA model of wall oven on the market that does not have this problem?

I have the same model, 3 yrs old, and the exact same thing happened. KitchenAid made the appointment with a repair company and when the tech came out the first thing he said was "you can never use the self cleaning cycle because this always happens.' He replaced the thermal fuse thermostat and said that a lot of times the digital panel will go out and that will cost around $400. The cost of the thermal part was $80 plus his $90 labor charge. I called Kitchen Aid back, and they swore they never heard this complaint...all you have to do is look on line to see it is a major complaint!
I have a 4 year old Kitchenaid KEBC177 that lasted 5 cleaning cycles before the thermal fuse quit the night before Easter. Joed5555's fix worked in 10 minutes with a screw driver, 2 inches of high temp wire, two 1/4" spade connectors, and some vinyl electrical tape. The part looks like this:

I'm going to stop by my local appliance parts store tomorrow and see if they have it in stock. MAKE SURE YOU TURN OFF THE POWER TO THE OVEN BEFORE WORKING ON IT!!
Thanks to the info here, I grabbed a new thermosensor from the local parts shop ($30) and installed it myself on the weekend. The hardest part was pulling the oven out of the wall mount--the actual replacement was easy. The sensor is in the back, just above the convection fan. Thanks to all for accurate descriptions of the problem and solution. ( I can't say that it has increased my confidence in Whirlpool.)
I had the same issue, the part itself is spec'd to 130c. The over is getting warmer than that during clean cycle and blowing hte part, its is clearly a design failure. I removed the part and hooked the wires together , placed a themal temp wand near it and saw temps in exxcess on the place where its mounted at 165c. this would pop the part every time.
I called kitchedaid and they were happy to send me a free part, and extend coverage for another year. bottom line is that the unit has issues and a classs action suit is needed.
Had the same problem...oven won't heat after using self cleaning feature once. Called local parts shop and ordered Part #9759242. Part ordered, supposed to arrive in 1 day and cost $55. Parts person referred to this part as a TOD. Also told by parts company they have seen this problem before and recommend decreasing the time for self cleaning from default (3 hrs, I think) to 2-2 1/2 hrs. Apparently, the unit allows you to change this.
I have the same model and have experienced the same problem. currently I have no useful oven and I am awaiting repairs !
Be sure guys to use part number# W10175596 (thermal fuse 140 degres). If you look by the model number they will give you Part # 9759242 (thermal fuse 130 degres) wich is not the good one. It is better to replace with W10175596. And also be sure that the internal fan is working properly (you will feel the heat at the bottom of the door). If it is not working properly the back of the oven will overheat and open the fuse. Hope that helps!!!

The house we rent has the KEBC107KSSO and right after we moved in my wife cleaned the oven and the same thing happened. That was back in 2004. The owner of the house said they never used the cleaning function while they lived here and neither did other renters.....Boy did it need a cleaning!
But that's the deal....the cleaning function is so hot it will burn out the thermal fuse.
Sounds like a lemon to me Kitchen Aid.
Now i'm having a time of getting the bulbs out to replace them. The manual is totally inaccurate about how to do it.

Same problem here. We have a year old KEBC107KSS05, which functioned properly, including cleaning 4-5 times, while under warranty. Last week, after cleaning, this problem occurred. The manufacturer seems to have the problem fixed well enough to get through the one year warranty period.

All the electrical panels seem to be operating. Since it is 1 and 1/2 years old it is out of warranty. I will have to pick up the service charges and KitchenAid claims that they will pick up certain parts. How can we fix this ourselves?

I have the same problem - it occurred twice under the 1st years warranty. So on the last trip, I had the warranty renewed for 2 years.
The repairman told me to have holes drilled in the cabinet around the built in oven - so I did, to open all cabinet doors while cleaning, and put a fan blowing in. Now I am running a test. I will see what happens. [email protected]
I wish we had searched for problems before buying this oven. I just cleaned it for the first time, and have the exact same problem. No heat, but everything else works. Sounds like I'll have to call a repair man on Monday.

I have the KitchenAid Superba single oven. I've already replaced the thermostat after using the self clean. That repair man said "it may or may not happen again." I just self cleaned again, and the same thing happened. This time, the repair man was more knowledgeable. He said he contacted the local Whirlpool rep who had a kit to fix the problem. It would cost me $370 for the kit and labor. I'm trying to get through to KitchenAid for them to pay for the kit, since its their defect. When I called KitchenAid HQ they said they have no record of the self clean/heating being a problem, and couldn't find the kit. So much for Quality and Service. I need to contact a higher authority.

I contaced the Whirlpool CEO and VP North America via e-mail. Voila! They are sending the parts and are sending out an authorized repair service. They said its not a recall, because its not a widespread problem. But, it does happen. Sometimes its the oven, sometimes its the insulation/cabinetry. I'm just glad its getting fixed... free of charge this time.
I have cleaned my Kitchenaid electric oven model KEBC177KSS05 three times since April 2007 (when it was purchased) and every time I've had to call Kitcheaid customer service for repair because it will no longer heat after the cleaning cycle is complete. I've just written them asking for the oven to be replaced as I believe it is a lemon. I don't feel they will repalce it and will be forced to purchase an extended warrenty to avoid costly repairs because I know it will happen again after the original warranty expires. The inconveninece of not having the oven for family dinners (Thanksgiving 07 and Easter 08) is very frustrating, not to mention all the time required to call and schedule a repair then take half a day off work while the repair is made.

I put my oven through the self-clean cycle for 2:30 hours and now it won't heat - when i called the dealer and Whirlpool service to tell them it seems to be a widepsread issue with these ovens they told me not to "jump to conclusions." My model is a built in wall oven.

Well, I thought I was alone, but it looks like Kitchen Aide needs to do a RECALL regarding their self cleaning ovens. Â I am surprised I was not notified about the oven not working after using the self cleaning cycle. Â I cleaned the oven three weeks ago and came home to bake a pizza. Â Guess what? Â The darn thing did not heat!!! Â I stayed there trying every option to get heat and to no avail...it never did!!! Â So, enter the Internet ( a wonderful thing when you need to check on a product). Â I can't believe all of the complaints. Â I will call Kitchen Aide in the morning. Â My oven is still under warranty for PARTS only. Â I will fight them to pick up the labor charges as well. I too am in the middle of the same problem. I used the self cleaning feature one time and tried to use the oven afterwards...no heat. I am now without an oven as I wait for the service company to get a thermal fuse which hopefully will solve the problem, $200 later. Kitchenaid really needs to address this problem or I and everyone else I tell about this mess will never buy another Kitchenaid product.

I read somewhere that the thermal fuse can be checked ( open or closed circuit). Which should it be if the fuse is kaputt?

We have had the same problem every time we try to have the oven self-clean. KitchenAid offered 50% discount on the part (probably around $30 or $40) or 20% off a NEW oven (which costs around $1700 or so), but takes no responsibility for the manufacturing defect. If we all band together and get a good lawyer, we can initiate a class action law suit that will force KitchenAid to accept responsibility and fix the recurring problem once and for all, not only for us, but for the many others out there who have not complained in this forum. Same problem -- no heat after a self-clean cycle, although I suppose we were lucky and it happened after the 4th time using the self-clean cycle. Appreciate the link for the part to fix! Will save us a bundle not having to call a repairman. Wish Whirlpool would take responsibility, though, since this seems to be happening a lot to just about everyone with this oven.
on halloween with 3o folks coming over, my wife used the self clean that day. Same results no heat.
I also have the KitchenAid Superba built-in convection ovens. Thermo fuse blew the first time I used the self clean feature. The part is a special order and will take several weeks to get. I will be bridging the fuse with a piece of wire. I also have looked into finding a dryer or dishwasher thermal fuse as a replacement. Apparently, the OEM fuse goes after 130°C. I will try and look for one around 160°C to replace it. I have not heard of any upgrade suggestions whether it be the fan or the thermostat which is may be causing the issue.

Every time I use the Self Clean the thermostat blows and I can't use my oven. It is no longer under warranty. I've had to replace it 4 times already. Do I give up? I could have bought a new oven with the price of repair. I guess I'll be scrubbing the inside my self, a $50 clean job isn't worth it. This should have been recalled, after seeing how many people have the exact same problem.

so each time (4 times) this particular instance happened they (store we
purchased item from) sent out a repairman to get it fixed - no cost to
us. Now a month after our warranty expires we did a 'self-clean' and
BAM no more heat. The store said that we should try to contact
Kitchenaid - but when I did they refused to admit that there was an
issue and said, 'since your appliance is so old there is nothing we can
do but offer you a 15% discount on the purchase of a new item." are you
kidding me? 'so old'???? I didn't realize that 5 years was old for an
appliance! Needless to say, we are back to square one - no oven, no
warranty - and a repairman scheduled to come and fix. I am hoping that
we can try Joed5555's fix and not have to pay the money for someone to
come out. What happened to Customer Service?
Same problem, fixed by Kitchenaid under warranty the first time, now I'm out of warranty and they told me to "Have a nice day!". They wouldn't help me on the part or anything, and this was talking to a manager. Picked up the part locally which apparently has a new part number now - hopefully it works better. Part number used to be 4452223 and is now 9759242. Cost me $62 CAD. I will never buy another Kitchenaid product. Their service was terrible and rude. I had much better service with my cheapo Fridgedair appliances in my last house. I'm going to try to fix it tonight. Thanks everyone for posting, it really is a great help. John
Wish I read this before I replaced the element and the oven thermo-sensor. I have the same exact problem on a KEBC107KSS0. I'm going to remove the oven from the wall tonight and check the thermo fuse.

I also have the same problem. This is the second time the fuse goes dead. Today, a repair man came. He told me I should make more clearance behind the oven to help. Of course I followed KitchenAids instructions when I installed and even added an extra safety inch.
I refused to pay the repair man. He did not insist, saying he understands me. He is not working for KitchenAid (which is in fact Whirlpool) as they are all independant contractors on Whirlpool call list.

Unfortunately, I have the same problem - no heat after running the self cleaning function. This happens everytime I use self clean. The oven is still on warranty, but I am also going to contact Kitchenaid to see what they are going to do. This is unacceptable.
Same old story....used the self-cleaning oven...BAM! Repairman said the thermofuses were designed to work at sea-level. Ovens that go to higher elevations do this. He repairs a lot of them, not just Kitchen Aid.
