Do you have to drop the gas tank to change the fuel pump on a 2006 Chevy uplander

It is the easiest way as the pump is connected at the top of the tank, make sure it's empty 1st and been left open for a day to get rid of all fumes.

O rings for fuel lines

Actually, the disconnect has TWO o-rings = one to seal it to the tank:

Needed only if there's a leak between the disconnect and the tank.

And one INSIDE the disconnect:

Kinda hard to see in this photo, but look close down inside.
Also, when reconnecting fuel line, put a dab/drop of oil on the male fitting (too hard to do the female fitting, oil doesn't like to run UP-hill).

This will make the fitting go together easier and lube the o-ring to help prevent cutting it.
Also, it helps to oil the o-ring to help install it into the disconnect and the oil left on it will help as mentioned above.

Gas tank reserve valve

Recently, my quick disconnect started to leak...leak pretty profusely actually. Anyway, the Harley dealership tried to sell me an entire new quick disconnect. I insisted that there had to be an o-ring inside the disconnect, but the parts guy swore that there was not. After refusing to spend $58 on a new disconnect, I drained the fuel from the tank, removed the disconnect, and removed the cracked o-ring (the one that the parts guy said did not exist). A quick trip to the local parts store and I found the o-ring for under $1.
Just be sure to ask for one that is fuel resistant.

if I remember correctly, it's the same size o-ring as the oil drainplugs...a #41 I think.

$6.99 for the HELP o-ring kit at your local Advance Auto Parts has the o-ring you need...in fuel grade too.

Disconnected

disconnect main inlet and vent hoses. Disconnect the three hoses that goes into the pump at the top. Disconnect wiring harness. Put jack under tank and remove the two straps holding tank in. Once on the ground, blow off all the dust that's around the top. This truck should either be a C style ring or a full ring with tabs. If it's a C style, pull ends together and remove ring. If it's a tab style, grab hammer and screwdriver. Hit each tab to turn the ring counter clockwise. Keep doing this untill it pops off. Remove pump and remeber how it comes out. Put new o ring on new pump and lube ring up with some kind of lubericant. A little oil, tranni fluid, even pertrelum jelly. Pump pump back in, when you push down on it to set it into place, make sure you push it in straight. Not doing this will damage oring and possible fuel leakeage when it's filled. While pressing pump down put old c ring or tab ring back on and get it started. Lock the ring into place and install. Doing everyting in reverse order of what you did to remove.
