Model # GSS25LGPA_WW has (for the second time) gone above freezing temperature (32 degrees plus) in the freezer. The first time it happended, we unloaded all frozen food and turning down temperature control to a colder setting "8" (normally at "2"). Overnight it went back to freezing and everything was OK. Last night it happend again with the temp going above freezing in the freezer (even with the setting still at 8). Help.

    Cerfer39,

thanks for responding. Had the repari guy out to the house today and he said it is the electronic control board. He said this is quite common with GE and other manufacters. He seem very confident that this was the problem and has replaced numerous ones before.....Also worthy to note that the refrigerator part of the frig also went out last Friday, so the whole system went "belly up".

Hi. I have a GSS22SGRF (surprise....2 years old!). Anyway, the howling doesn't bother me so much (I have a beagle) :-) but I do have to defrost the freezer coils every week. I have found a green wire with a yellow stripe sort of hanging down at the bottom of the inside freezer compartment and was looking for a wiring diagram to see what it goes to. Any ideas on where to find one?

It sounds like the defrost heater is burned out. Remove the inside back cover in the freezer to see if the coils are frozen up. If so, more than likely your defrost heater has bit the dust. It is located at the bottom of the inside coil of the freezer.

Also, you could be have a clogged condensor coil. It is located on the out side back of the Fridge. You need to remove the panel from the lower part of the fridge and do a thorugh cleaning.

Everything in the vegetable and lower drawers is freezing. The temperature is set at 42 degrees.

Can you put a thermometer in the different places in the fridge?
All food has to be kept below 40 degrees and above 32 degrees.

Hope this helps you

My GE Refrigerator model GSL25JTFBBS stay in

Good day,
35 minutes would be considered nominal. That is the amount of time needed to heat up the cooling coils behind the rear panel in the freezer compartment, and then allow it to drain the condensate water out the drain.

The defrost cycle is made up of 2 parts.
The first part involves shutting all fans and compressor off, and turning on the heater/heaters mounted on the bottom of the cooling coil to above freezing. About 10 to 15 minutes.

The second half occures when a defrost thermostat mounted on the top of that coil senses the coil is above freezing. It cuts the power to the heaters, and lets the system just idle, while the water is allowed to drain out of the drain.

If that tstat is working properly, the food temperature is affected slightly but never to an above freezing condition.
The thermostat is a small 1" round disk clipped to the top of the coil.

Only one possibility, but that tstat could be hanging allowing the freezer coil compartment to reach a very high temperature. If so, it needs replaced.

You should also check to see if both fans and compressor start running as soon as the cycle is done.

GE Profile refrigerator temperature problem

refrigerators have 2 coils. the evaporator coil and the condensing coil. one is on the bottom of the fridg and one is on the back or inside behind a false panel. these coils must be kept clean or if the condensing coil cannot reject the heat absorbed by the evaporator, the box temp will stay high and if the evap coil cant absorb heat the box temp stays low running the risk of freezing

Fresh food side too warm

Refrigerator [email protected] 40 F or lower is the recommended refrigerator temperature to slow bacterial growth and maintain quality. Freezing occurs at 32 F; adjust refrigerator accordingly between 32 F and 40 F to prevent unwanted freezing, such as freezing milk.

Our GE monogram refrig compartment is constantly below freezing.

2 possibilties most likely is a bad temp sensor it thinks its warmer in the refrig than it actually is. the next possibilty is a motherboard has gone bad in the unit.

GE refrigerator is freezing everything.

I had that problem in my refrigerator and found out that it was coming from the freezer. The thermostat in the freezer broke and it was crazy freezing in the freezer part as well as freezing in the refrigerator. Once we replaced the thermostat everything was fine. It cost me $125
