The reason why you have different sizes is due to the resolution on the media. If your DVD player has a resolution upscale, you can set it to the max which should be 1080i or 1080p. this will give you the best picture. Regarding to the setting on your TV. you can go to menu, setting and picture. you can set your setting there for zoom and it will be like that for all your station. Note: if you do that, you will lose some of the edges when watching high resolution programing.

Dvds play in smaller window

There are a few things it could be. First I'd go into the players settings menu and see what the aspect ratio are and if there are any zoom options. For your zoom option, if there is a "fit to screen" option I'd choose that and see if anything changes. If not double check your TV settings for the same thing.

Zoom on desktop

Try Right Clicking on a empty space on the desktop and select Properties. Click the Settings Tab and go change the screen resolution. The higher the resolution, the smaller the icons. Normal resolution is about 1024x768, but you can make the icons even smaller by increasing the resolution.

If you can't get into the screen resolution that way, turn off the computer and boot up into safe mode.

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFE MODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will look different to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this is normal.

When the computer boots up click Start/Control Panel or Start/Settings Control Panel and look for Desktop or Appearance and Personalization.
Look for Screen Resolution or open the desktop and click the Settings tab. Make the resolution higher to make the icons smaller. Normal is 1024x768 but you can make it higher.

In Windows 7 just click Start and in the search box type: Screen Resolution. Look up at the top for the returned search results and click on Screen Resolution. Go in and set the resolution higher.

After you change the resolution reboot and let windows go into it's normal boot up mode.

Hi: Check you screens format button to change screen sizes, this button may also be labeled Aspect. Seems you are in ZOOM Mode, these buttons can also be found on cable boxes remote as well try pushing them to see if screen size change. If this does'nt help then do this with the TV in off posistion. Press the Display key on your remote, Then the Five key, then the Vol up key, then press power key. This will turn set on in service mode, you will see service options do not do anything but press the number 8 on remote and hit enter. This will rest tv to factory settings. All video setups and parameters you have set in user menu will result back to factory and will need to be redone. TV should shut down on its own and come back on on channel 3.

How to format my PHILIPS flat screen. I want the picture to be full screen

On the picture menu, you can select between 16:9, 4:3, zoom 1, zoom 2, etc. Depending on the station you are watching and whether or not it is an HD station, selecting zoom 1 or zoom 2 on your TV remote might give you full screen. Otherwise, on some DISH remotes there is a format or zoom button that will also change the size of the picture.
