Run the diagnostics.

With the TV power cord plugged in, press the 'INPUT and 'MENU' buttons at the same time -- use the buttons on the front of the TV, NOT the buttons on the remote; a diagnostic Error Code Operational Check will begin, utilizing the 'POWER ON' LED (the green 'POWER ON' indicator light).

There will be a pattern of two sets of flashes, with a pause in bewteen flashes; this sequence of flashes will be repeated a total of five times.

The Error Code designations are listed below:

Error Code Description
12 No eror has occurred.
21 X-Ray Protect circuit.
22 Short Protect circuit.
23 Horizontal Deflection failure.
24 Vertical Deflection failure.

I hope this information helps.

By the way, in order to start the diagnostics, the 'INPUT' and 'MENU' buttons need to be held in for at least five seconds to start the diagnostics program... sorry I forgot to mention this earlier.

    Hi Dinah,

You need to count the flashes of the green LED (the one that tells you whether the TV is in a power on state) on the front of the TV (it's the one you refer to in your question above as the green button).

(From your question, you state when you try to turn the TV on, the green LED only stays on for two seconds or so and then shuts off)

For example, if there are two flashes, followed by a 1/2 second pause, and then three more flashes -- this indicates a problem with the Horizontal Deflection circuit... see the previous information I sent to determine what the different Error Codes mean.

The Error Code pattern will repeat five times and then the diagnostic will be complete.

Have Hd 1080 series tv model # vs-50111 tv will not turn on. When you try to turn it on green light stays on for 3 seconds then nothing.

it may or may not have the self check but try this:

When green light comes on and goes off ON THE FRONT OF THE SET press and hold the menu and input buttons at same time for 5 seconds or more and release both.

Power light should blink a two digit error code like 2 blinks, 2 blinks and pause--repeat it several times--all their sets after 1999 have this feature.

If yours does not someone has to go inside and measure voltages etc to find problem---a lot of the older ones develop broken solder connections and the chassis would have to be examined for that.

Hi if its a Lcd or Dlp rptv most likely its time to replace the lamp if tv is between 2-4 yrs.If you hear clicking it could be the ballast which is the board that powers the lamp.Make sure fans are running ok ,dust them out if they are dirty.God bless you!

Press in together the menu button and the Device/input button on the set and hold them both in together for 5 seconds and see if the led will blink a two digit error code, then respond to this same post and let me know if it gave a error code and what the two digits were.

FIRST Check for open fuses F9A04 PART # 283P044020 AND F9A05 PART # 283P043090 ON THE +24 AND -24 VOLT LINES. IF fuses are open then convergence output circuit would be your problem.

TV Picture Goes Black

I had the same exact problem.
I removed the bulb and cleaned it. There is a small screen at the top of the bulb and it was covered with dust. Once it was cleaned I replaced the bulb and it solved the problem.

Mitsubishi va-50111 television

You have to hold the menu button for about 8 seconds. You'll get a sign at the bottom of the screen that says "Front Panel Lock Disabled"
