SOURCE: Cannot get wifi to work- did this router need a password?
If you have not accessed the main router page and made any changes the wireless may not even have a password set yet.
You need to access the router setup page from your computer connected to it via a cable.
If using windows click start (Bottom left)
run
in the Run box type cmd
in the black box that pops up type ipconfig /all
in the white writing that has just appeared you will find your ethernet local area network or LAN settings
Look down those particular settings and find DHCP Server.
You should have some numbers beside it that look something like 192.168.1.1 this is the ip address of your router. Write it down including the full stops, periods or dots whichever you call them.
Now open a browser window eg Internet Explorer or Firefox
In the top address bar type in that number exactly as you saw it and wrote it.
Hit enter and it should either
1. take you to your router setup page or
2. Have a box pop up asking for username and password.
If its the latter try using Administrator as the login ID and leave the password blank. If that fails try using password as the password.
Maybe the password is underneath the router maybe even the wireless key is written underneath the router?
If thats the case I have just wasted everybodies time. :) ;)
If not and you now can get to the setup page.
Run through your options on the left to set up your wireless and configure your passwords.
If a password is already set for your wireless you should be able to see it in the wireless settings section selectable from the menu on the left.
If you still have no luck accessing the setup page owing to incorrect login or password I'm afraid you are going to have to try to find a manual as I have told you default passwords and if they don't work it must have all ready been pre-configured.
A full reset is possible and MAY return the router to factory settings.
Usually the reset button is small hole on the back of the router near the cable connections. Using a pin or suitable thin object push the reset button and hold it for 10 seconds then release.
After all your lights do their dancing you should try and access the setup page again.
I do hope this helps you some.
As not all routers are the same I can only give you some generic instruction and hope you have enough to go on to get you through.
For this I apologise.
But I hope you get up and running. :)
