I should go online to sony.com and download updated drivers as one or two may be missing.

To adjust the brightness control, press Fn + F5 and release, plus the RIGHT ARROW or LEFT ARROW keys to increase or decrease the value.

On most notebook computers you can use the Fn+F5 keys to lower the screen brightness level, and the Fn+F6 keys to raise the screen brightness level.

i've just install xp windows to my sony vaio vgn-fs285h and i can't adjust brightness on screen, can anyone help

To enable the Fn keys functionality, you need to install the "Vaio Event Service" and "Sony Utility Series"
They are available to download as part of a package from the Sony website. Here is the link:

you can change the brightness from the power saving settings in the control panel.
if the dedicated keys don't work you probably need to install the drivers for the keyboard/multimedia keys, download them from the sony website.

your laptop inverter is going bad. need to replace. you can get it on ebay cheap. the inverter is responsible you the lighting up of your screen. thats the solution REMEMBER TO RATE THE SOLUTION
