SOURCE: looking for switch wiring diagram for Oster Golden A5

You must put the new one in exactly as the old one came out. Sorry, no diagrams unless you are an authorized dealer. Most of our repairs are common sense. No books. My husband just replaced mine today. Plus one clipper wasn't the switch as I thought, but was a broken wire in the cord near the clipper that kept shorting.

SOURCE: I cannot get my blade back on my A5 Single speed

The drive arm is probably not aligned with the corresponding opening in the balde. You have to close the blade against the clipper body with the clipper turned on. This should take care of your problem.

Oster A5 turbo 2 speed Pet Clippers

Send it back for refund. Nothing in a clipper should overheat like that. Buy the best, buy Wahl..

Oster make kitchen small appliances. Wow, I just Googled these and they are $210! Looks like made for Pro use, however the overheating issue is a known fault mentioned here on Fixya and in reviews.

How to put a oater a5 blade back together

There needs to be a video for this one but if you look at your other blades they can give you a guide. I wouldn't take the others apart though.get your pieces together the best you can. Don't forget the little plastic sliding piece. When you tighten the screws tighten the two equally and try your best to align everything as much as possible. Now look at your cutter blade and make sure the teeth don't stick out higher than gaps of the teeth on the main part of the blade. This will cut a dog.

I took off the end cap of my single speed A5 to clean out the dog hair and now they will not run. Before I took the end cap of and cleaned out the hair, the clippers would run intermitenly. Sometimes...

Chances are if you could wiggle the cord and get your clippers to start again there is a short in your power cord. However there is a list of other things to check:
  1. Within the cap are two brass tabs which sit across from conjugate tabs within the main housing. These are designed to contact each other when the cap is secured. If there is any question whether they are in contact, you can exaggerate the bend slightly to ensure that they are.
  2. Check your carbon brushes to make sure they are not worn down. The brushes are directional so make sure the concave surface direction matches that of the housing and thus the armature contained within.
  3. Lastly, check your toggle switch. Gently, tug on each end of the switch's wires to make sure they are secured to both the housing and the switch. These wires can become broken and appear to be attached to the switch when they are not. The number one cause is a loose or missing switch nut, especially since Oster has switched from metal to plastic on the nut.
Hope this helps.

I just replaced a faulty switch to my Oster hair clippers Golden 5 single speed. I forgot how to reattach the switch and power cord wiring. Whoops?

I had the same problem with an Oster 76. I disassembled the unit and replaced the switch but my "repair" caused the house fuse to blow.
If you're a "once in a while user" such as myself, you may find my eventual solution useful: I screwed the terminal ends of the cord directly into the main body of the clipper. This made the on/off switch the power cord itself.

Simple question: Are the Oster 76 2-speed, the Oster Crewmaster 2-speed, and the Oster A5 2-speed all the same clipper with different detachable blades?

well the 76 and the golden a5 are almost the same the name plates are different and the 76 uses a toggle switch but the a5 uses a rocker switch. not sure about the crewmaster sorry.

I need to replace the 2 speed oster A5 toggle switch and the cord. Cant figure out how to put the wires back together

I have a picture of one, can you tell me where you got the new switch, I need to replace mine.

The center lead goes under the white wire.
The two end leads both go to one of the brass connectors
The black wire goes to the other brass connector.

Note the "Tab" at the top

I need help!!!

if you have a single speed (on off) clipper, it should only have 2 wires which go on either way. If you have a 2 speed (off low high) clipper there should be 3 wires, and they must go on exactly as they were. you won't blow anything up if you wire it wrong you just wont have 2 speeds . . just keep turning them around till you get it right.
