Recently found that Sony is phasing out their DVD camcorders and we have to make the switch to flash memory or hard drives. Problem is we usually enjoy a embedded timestamp that is recorded when finalizing a miniDVD. Although the timestamp is stored in raw footage of flash memory or hard drive camcorder, when you burn the recordings to a DVD they do not show up. The only way we have found to get the timestamp is to plug the camera into a recorder and record at one time speed as the camcorder plays showing the timestamp. Is there a faster way??? In some cases we have 2 or more hours of video so doing this recording is time prohibative. Unfortunately, the timestamp is critical since it documenting activities for a report.

Trying to use a consumer camcorder for this kind of purpose is not likely to be the best option.

u tooo have same problem .. i recorded my whole trip on Dvd RW now the camcorder or computer shows fileformat as RAW rather than VR.. plz suggest some solutions.. all i want is my recordings back

After fiddling around with the camera, I ound out how to do it since I had the same problem.
1. Put the disc into your camera
2. press the "home" button displayed on the top-left of the flip-out screen

If your discs are rewritable, you could try putting your discs in your computer. Try opening the folders and try to open all the files. Some of the files may be your videos. If it opens your video player and plays your videos, wait until it plays everything to make sure that all your data were recorded in the disc. Copy everything in your computer and remove your disc. Try playing it again and if it works, then it's already ok. When you are planning to use it again, make sure that you format everything in the disc.

I have the same problem. If you have taken the disk out of the re-corder, then you can no longer finalize the disk...and you will potentially lose the data on the disk. Their only solution was to take it to a professional media service and see if they could recover it...what a joke...at no point in the manual does it indicate that you cannot remove your disk or face the potential of losing your recording...I lost the recordings of the birth of my son...I will never forgive that...
