Having same problem, no range in yds or metres, although the cross hair is there. Installed new battery and still no measurements.

I'm having the same problem. My Nikon Laser440 works sometimes under 20yds., never beyond 20yds. anymore. It shows a full battery and is only 3 yrs. old and lightly used.

IT SHOWS THE CROSSHAIRS,DOES NOT RANGE,THEN SHUTS-OFF WHEN YOU LET OUT THE RANGE BUTTON.

  • joliphant339 Aug 21, 2008

My range finder will read on a good target to 85 yards, but no farther even if the target is a house!

  • whitetail_wi Oct 22, 2008

I replaced the battery TWICE on my Nikon Laser 440 and all it dos is show me the cross hair than instead off giving me the range it shows 3 lines. I can change the meter and yard.

I purchased the range finder in 2007 and only used it for Archery season.

I put in a fresh battery and push power button but it does not range find. It just shows 3 dots.

  • Anonymous Dec 08, 2008

My range finder will only read out to about 125 yards. I have put new batteries in it. It seems to read shorter distances every time I use it. [email protected]

The range finder only shows three lines with no distance when powered up. I changed the battery but got no improvement. I tried the re-set solution but got no change.

I too am having the same problem. I go through the reset sequence and it ranges at the end of the reset but not when I push the button afterwards. All I get is the cross hairs and the 3 lines with the YRD indicator.

  • Anonymous May 04, 2009

unit is approx. 1.5 yrs old and will not display yardage even after reset.

display shows yd and m without probem just wont display numbers.

reticle is hard to see and everything eventually fades away. Nikon should repair these at no charge. i will not buy another nikon.

I just got mine to work. It was doing the same thing. I guess I re-set it. I figured there had to be some way to re-set it. So I pushed the mode button and the power button simultaneously for 30 second. Then it worked! Wooptidoo :)

I purchased a new LR 559 Callaway golf rangefinder from a QVC auction. The problem with it is it isnt even close to accurate. I have a measured archery range back to 65 yards and the rangefinder is way off...

its a piece of ****, that happens when you arder through qvc. When you arder electronic devices for weights or measurements, first you must know exactly what you are looking at, make, model, and series,,, then read all of the reviews you can,, then go to a pro store-- (like our shop we are a pro archery shop) we refuse to work on peoples bows they bring in that they bought online, because half the time they recieved something that they did not order, they dont look like they did in the picture that the seller posted... always read reviews and ask the professionals.... I would return the item even if it was an auction, if you cant return it then ebay it-- but be honest when you post descriptions of the item, and the problems that you may be experiencing, trust me the buyers will appreciate it...

  • Size (Length x Width x Height) 5.1 x 1.5 x 2.7 in
  • Weight w/o Batteries 6.3 oz
  • Objective Diameter 21mm

I did not read that there is a recalibration for the unit, although a consumer might expect that. Has it ever been dropped to your knowledge?

The above link has contact information for service of the unit via telephone numbers.

Need the proper tool for a nikon prostaff range finder

Harbor Freight has a kit that has them in it and most industrial tool supply companies have them. It's a security screw. there are many kits availably with an assortment of bits in them. Drill Master has a 100 piece kit that's pretty cheap. Item#91310

JUST GOT LASER 440 FOR CHRISTMAS AN CAMT GET IT TO COME ON AN WOR

As far as I know, you point it at something a distance away and press the power button. They're a very simple device but will likely not work indoors or over very short ranges.

If you're still having problems with it, it should still be under warranty, I would return it to the store immediately. If you have any issues with the store staff, do not leave the device with them and contact Nikon directly for help with warranty. You should never have issues with a product out of the box.

Bushnell Laser Range Finder

you have it on the meters setting not the yards setting. hold the scan button down for three seconds or longer and it will revert to the other form. a meter is nearly 10% longer than a yard.

Nikon Pro Staff 440 Range Finder

there is a silver quarter sized screw out cover on the battery compartment.  It has a slot so you can use a coin or screwdriver to remove the cover.
