Gets cold works but then stops cooling. Very loud fan noise off and on behind in the back of refrigerator
SOURCE: loud noise from the freezer side
The problem is a buildup of ice on the plastic housing (the curved plastic bit) in the back of the freezer under the fixed shelf where the icetub goes. The fan behind this plastic housing is hitting the ice when the defrost comes on.
Unplug the fridge, unpack the freezer, remove the four screws in the back, take off the sheetmetal backing and let the fridge thaw. You can remove the plastic piece after a while and get the ice off (be careful not to remove the styrofoam insulation by going too quickly).
Reassemble and you're back in business, for a few months. I'm never buying Samsung again myself.

I figured out what was going on with mine and fixed it (without needing to buy replacement parts). In the freezer section, about a third of the way down the back of the freezer was a bulged-out plastic covering, held in place by four screws. The two screws on top are covered by oval plastic that pops off easily with the help of a knife. If you take the screws out, the hard part is that the bulge/cover is still going to be frozen in place. I used an old-fashioned bottle opener/churchkey to gently pry the compartment open. When I got inside, it was easy to see what was happening--the plastic fan was hitting ice that had built up behind this cover. I chipped away all the ice, and presto--no more noise!

I think I answered this in an earlier post.
The noise is the fan banging against the motor housing. It's not a defective motor, it's a poorly designed motor.
The solution is to shim the motor mount so it is slightly out of level which will keep the fan from bouncing off the motor housing.
The reason Samsung won't service is they don't understand the problem. I've seen this a half-dozen times.
Trust me -- SHIM THE MOTOR MOUNT!

Same problem here with the Samsung RS2630SH refrigerator. First had
intermittent fan noise, followed by constant squealing fan noise
followed by total fan failure and fridge walls getting very hot. Ordered
parts # DA97-01949A (fan motor) and DA31-00010C (fan blade) from
partstore.com. The fan unit actually slides out. Slide the fan unit
(the white plastic cowling and all) forward (toward the doors) and then
lift it out. Taking the back panel off and aiming a fan at the
condenser does seem to sufficiently cool the fridge - at least it did
for me - until the parts arrive. Good luck to all and don't by Samsung
again. I know I won't.
