From the main phone, press PROG **1234 and dial 004. Press ENTER 2 times (watch out, it moves on the display) and you will be looking at 101 : OPERATOR if it's still unprogrammed. Keep pressing NEXT until you get to the one you want to change and use a combination of the keypad and the AUTO ANS button to spell out the new name. The STORE button saves it, the right arrow and clear button step back and forth on the line you're entering.
You can pick up the handset and drop it back into the cradle when you're done to exit.

SOURCE: Changing hold music - Panasonic KX-T7433
If it's truly music and not tones, the music comes from a device plugged into the system cabinet. On the side of the system there is a port marked MOH with a cable and a box at the other end. Here's where you find the MOH device and either change the CD or record new messages into it.
Intellitouch has a product called message studio that lets you make your own message on hold messages here:

The demo is free, and a licensed product is about $30.

SOURCE: KX-T7433 - message light does not work
Assuming that the 74xx phone is connected to a Panasonic TD system, the only code is dialing 701 on the intercom, or pressing the MESSAGE button and dialing the 3 digit extension. You can't set your own MW, so you need to do it from another phone to your extension to test it. It also has to be the hardware number ie 101-116 or 132 and not Phantom numbers.
Your 74xx phone could be connected to a TDA or the numbering plan may have been changed, but those are obscure situations.
