You can't. At least without taking it back to Apple and having it upgraded. The VRAM is "Video RAM" this is hardware and Apple are notorious about making things difficult to upgrade for consumers.

Sometimes you can increase the Shared Memory in the BIOS setup. I'm not sure if you have that setting or access to that setting, depends on the Motherboard. Use extreme caution when altering ANY settings in the BIOS. One worng step, and you have a new paperweight, not a Laptop. you are confused about old mobo and old Intel H55 chipsets

This sounds like you need an updated driver for your graphics chip set.
Try going to the support page for the type of laptop you are using and you should be able to find all of the updated drivers that work for win7.

You should be able to resolve this by restting your SMC and THEN resetting your PRAM. First:

Check if your gfx card isn't overheating. Be careful not to burn it out if this is the case. If it is not overheating try to update the graphic drivers.
