Some of the older thinkpad had a program you from the OS or a boot floppy to had to run to get change the bios settings. But the BIOS key on most is F1. So if you press that key as soon as you turn the machine on and anything appears on the screen, and once you've provided the password you can then change the password to blank within the bios.
If you don't know the password at all, there may still be a way to reset it, but it may require a call to IBM/Lenov, or some other tedious process.
SOURCE: Is there a way to master reset the IBM T43 Thinkpad
No it's not possible to do it with just a button or replace it to factory settings.
The T43 Comes with WinXP or OS/2 Warp or Windows 2000 Pro.
If you wanted to reset it you basically would have to format the harddrive.
You can get a older version of WinXP which is still supported by microsoft or either that you can format it and sell it without a operating system.
Or you can add/remove items you installed and remove personal info delete pretty items much within windows itself.

SOURCE: T43 IBM laptop Supervisor password locked How can
As you may know, IBM ThinkPad uses a smalleeprom (ATMEL 24RF08) to store different OEM issues like serial number,UUID, etc. The supervisor password (SVP) is stored also into thislittle chip. So, anybody should figure that he needs to read the eepromin order to find the password string. The first problem is that 24RF08is not an ordinary eeprom. The second is that the password is writtenin a special scan code.
To read this properly you need a software (and an interface) specially designed for this eeprom.
The software is R24RF08 (eeprom reader) and IBMpass (password decoder).

Are you sure you have a wire card installed? If so, then try this:
Note:
If the card has a exclamation mark over a yellow background, then this
is an indication that the card is experiencing a problem. Go to Driver
download step 5.
It is possible to disable the transmitter of the wireless card without Device Manager showing any problems.
Note: Follow the instructions provided to enable wireless card.
If you double-click the previously mentioned system tray icon, the
configuration utility of the wireless card will appear. This utility
will be able to show the status of the wireless card, showing what
channel the card is using and what signal strength is being received.
It may be difficult to maintain a connection if signal strength is low
due to either interference or distance. For example, interference can
be caused by 2.4GHz cordless phones, other Access Points in the area,
and physical structures such as load bearing walls or metal partitions.
Note:
The utility can be used to configure the wireless card settings, but if
using Windows XP Zero Configuration or Access Connections, you will
need to use those programs to actually configure the wireless card as
they will overwrite the setting of the utility.
