There is a small (usually ) aluminum slide door. You need to air out the immediately area of any possible gas, then turn the knob on the regulater to pilot, hold the button down for a minute or so then use a long match to light the pilot light inside that little door. Hold lit matches up to the little tube until it lights. Then turn knob to temp.
assuming you mean you have electric ignition, DO NOT try to lite with a flame of any kind. make sure gas is on, while pushing knob turn to PILOT hold knob down for appr. 10 seconds while still holding knob down, push ignter. you may have to do this proccess afew times. if this doesnt work, call a pro. gas appl. can be extremily dangerous
I looked up this unit for you and found out it is a hot water system. She needs to get to the main gas valve to light the pilot. This unit has what is called a thermocouple on it that keeps the pilot on, even when the boiler shuts down. Its just a matter of lighting the pilot light. There should be a metal plate with the directions on it at the gas valve to lite it. You will have a knob, more then likely red or black in color on top of the valve. It will say on, off, and pilot. It should be in the on position now. Turn it to pilot. Have some matches with you and a flashlight if you can. You will need to look back into the burner area to where your pilot light will be. The thermocouple is a copper colored tubing that runs right back to the pilot, as it has to get hot from the pilot flame to work. To start, depending on how far back you have to reach with the match, you may need to use a piece of solid cardboard rolled up, a small piece to light it and reach in. Turn the knob to pilot. Now, push down on the knob and hold it down. This lets gas get back to the pilot, so you must keep it down and light it at the same time. Once it is lite, you have to hold it down for at least a minute. Slowly release it, very slow. The flame should then stay on. Once it is on, turn the gas knob to on. With the thermostat set to come on, it will fire up and heat the water. If the pilot will not stay lite after you hold it down for 1 minute, and keeps going out, the thermocouple will need to be replaced. It is the copper line that screws into the gas valve and goes back to the pilot. You can get them at any hardware store for around $6.00. Maybe you can help her install it. It is very simple to do. I believe the pilot just blew out and she will need to light it. Just follow what I have told you, and she will get it lite. Good Luck to you.
Access is at the bottom of the water heater. There is a little cover you will have to take off. Look for the gas valve. (its where the gas will come in to the water heater) Follow the two lines that come off he bottom of the valve. They will lead you to the burner (big line) and the pilot(smaller line). The pilot is what you are looking for. 1. locate the pilot (it will be 8" or so in to the water heater)(right next to the burner) 2. Turn knob on top of gas valve to "pilot" 3. Push down the knob on top of the valve that you just turned to "pilot" or there may be a lever right next to the knob on some models 4.with a long fireplace match or bar b que lighter, while holding the knob down, reach your lighter to the pilot assembly. you may smell a little gas. 5. The pilot will light, do not let go of the knob for 30-45 seconds 6. After a few seconds let go of the knob and turn it to "on" 7. Check your thermostat make sure it is not on "vacation" and turn it up to see if the burner ignites. You are ready for hot water if all works. Hope this helps you, have a good day.
At the controls there should be a knob that says " Pilot"... "ON" Turn the knob to pilot and hold it down while lighting the pilot lite. Keep holding it down until it gets warm enough that when you leave it up the pilot stays on. Once the pilot lite stays on on it's own turn it to on.
the white rodgers gas control needs to be replaced; the way it works is: the thermocouple opens the pilot gas circuit and, holds it open when it heats up by creating a magnetic field in the gas control then: when you turn the knob on the gas control to "on" a valve inside the gas valve opens the main gas circuit and, electricity supplied by your RV keeps it open. the main gas coil inside the gas valve is defective and, can not hold the main gas circuit to the burner open anymore.
