Hi I have a xitel inport which I purchased one year ago it did not come with software , what software do i need for windows vista or xp to use it ? Regards Paul

    Hi

    this answer implies that I need to buy the hardware again , is there somewhere where I can buy the software and download on the internet to make the xitel inport work on my vista or xp laptops ?

  1. Plug the audio cable into one end of the device. Plug the other end of the audio cable into the outputs on your home stereo system (or similar device)
  2. Plug the USB cable from the device into your Vista or XP computer. The drivers will self-install.
  3. You should have received the software with the device. It may be called LP Recorder and comes on CD. If you did, use that software to record the audio from your tape.
If you don't have the CD, you should be able to use other software. Try Windows Media Encoder here and use its capture feature. Ensure you have already done the 3 steps above before launching the program.

If that doesn't work:
  1. Do the 3 steps above, then go to Start > Control Panel > Sounds (or similar), Recording tab
  2. Check that the device is listed in there, and make it the default device
  3. Then go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Sound Recorder, and use this to record the audio. You can adjust quality settings from Step 2 as well.

Xitel Inport De luxe with window 7
The directions for using the Xitel Inport Deluxe under Win7 are the same as those for using the device with Vista. The drivers are built into the OS. You will need to set the audio input to the Xitel device. For most installs of Windows 7 (Aero capable), with the Inport Deluxe plugged into a USB port on the computer, click Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound. Under the Sound listing, click on Manage Audio Devices. In the Recording tab, right click on Microphone Input and select Disable. Right click on the Line INport and select Enable. Right click again on Line INPort and make this the default device. Click on the Playback tab and right click on Speakers INport and select Disable.
If Aero isn't available, it's Control Panel > Sound.

You can use any recording software that runs under your version of Windows 7. The LP Recorder software manual starts on page 8 of the Xitel Inport Deluxe manual. If you do not have the original disc, LP Recorder is available here: http://www.cfbsoftware.com/lprecorder/lprecorder.aspx . (Audacity, http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ , works much the same way as LP Recorder. However the drop down menus for the source and output are available from the main program with the default toolbars enabled.)
