What do i need for replacement string? Can i go heavier or stay with the smaller string? This is for mastercraft 20v grass trimmer. thanks

the size of the string is critical in electric driven trimmers
it does have mass and the thicker string will over load the motor
stay with the recommended string size and keep to the recommended distance to the grass being cut
string line cutters work on the principle that the tip speed of the string is what does the cutting and that means that the first 1/2" of string cuts the grass
the rest back to the hub acts like a brake as it is dragged across the grass and slows the cutting speed and loads the motor
remember that the machine is designed to trim edges and not to cut down growth-- that is a job for heavier duty units

Tanaka tht 2100-very difficult to start. Pull cord is is either too loose when pulled or it is jumpy, meeting with a bit of resistance?

i think it sounds like the motor is going i had a chainsaw and it did the same thing after a while the motor went and the chainsaw was no good anymore so you mite want to take it to a dealer that deals with your grass trimmer

How do I change the cord in my electric Black & Decker weed trimmer? No. 8209 4.3 amps Where do I put the cord? In which direction do I wind it?

Look under Operating Instructions....Spool and Line Replacement. This model is probably same as yours in that regard. Diagrams and instructions are included.

The strings keep on breaking off at the eyelet

Usually means grass is too long for that trimmer or you are cutting too close...try trimming with just the tip of the cord...or eyelets are worn sharp

How to change the spool in the black and decker grasshog

Is this the cordless Grass Hog? Turn the trimmer upside down so you're looking at the bottom. There are two orange tabs on either side of the spool -- push these in and the head should pop up so you can pull it out.

On the new spool, feed the cord out several inches and stick it through the hole in the trimmer where the old cord stuck out. Then pop the spool into the cavity so that the orange cover faces out (toward you). Pull the cord taut and make sure it is not long enough to hit the plastic guard. If it is too long and it touches the guard, pull the spool off and wind the cord in a little bit. If the cord is too short, pull the spool off and thread out a little bit more length and try again.

Turn the trimmer right side up and turn it on to make sure it works. If you hear a loud rapid thumping sound that sounds sort of like a machine gun, the cord is too long and is hitting the plastic guard.

Got a Ryobi Petrol grass trimmer but cant start i anymore as there is no resistance on the cord when trying to start it. Any ideas?

Sounds like the starter spool is stripped. This the one with the cord on it. You have to dismantle the unit to replace it but it is not too hard. You can get a replacement online or ot your local small engine shop. Good luck...Lee

Will not recharge

The batteries have a short life-span. Usually replacing the battery works. This is why this model frequently gets poor reviews and why I replaced mine with a corded model.
