The SOS means your phone is locked and you can only use it with the original provider network
it is possible that if you battery got super low or you updated your software you relocked your phone.
Contact an unlocking service if you want to use another provider.

Hi i keep getting sos, with a little red thing on the top right hand corner of my phone, then i cant use it, i have already change my sin card, but it still does this, what is wrong my phone is unlocked, i...

your blackberry device needs to have the network selection set to automatic.........whats happening is when you get out of range of your home network you end up going SOS....this means that there is absolutely no service available and only emergency calls will go through. This is what you must do.
GO to the Connections menu..(thats the one that looks like an antenna tower) select your network settings and change them to automatic to allow your device to roam......and remember, no matter what plan you have with your service provider and no matter who you call or when the call is made you will be using your anytime minutes.......thats how they say no roaming charges....they just deduct a min from your bucket instead of applying an additional dollar amount. You should be good from here on out.

Blackberry pearl- initialization problem

I had the same problem and find the answer on other forum http://forums.crackberry.com/f85/huge-problem-about-initialization-failed-sos-113323/ I used some scotch tape and worked perfect for me, the idea is to make the sim card a litle "fat" to fit the contacts.

Good luck

Unable to make and recieve calls

I flashed and flexed the set but to no avail, tried a software update but no update was available from motorola. I then went to the Security settings of the set and restricted all outgoing calls and restricted all incoming calls except the phonebook entries. Then I dialed my mobile using a landline which was on my phonebook and my phone started recieving the calls, then after that I allowed all incoming and outgoing calls. This solved the problem. I believe it is sheer luck because I tried that step earlier on the same day but it gave no result.
