My compaq presario v5000 shut down and wont restart

My computer shut down by itself and will not restart. It has happened before, when it happened i removed the battery and put it back in and it restarted. I tried that and it didn't work. I will not start with the power cord either.

Depending on your Bios Version I think later then V44 fixed a bug that would cause your computer no to start if the battery was dead with the V5000. Remove the battery and try booting from just AC power.

I have also had the same issue when my bios battery is loose or dead. The battery can be accessed from the memory area. Once you open it on the left should be memory and on the right will be the wifi card. You don't need to unplug the cables just remove the wifi card and examine the battery. The battery is held by a very very flimsy piece of platic and really easy to break. The best thing I have found is using a little piece of cardboard from a box or something and using it to keep the battery tight, just dont go shaking the laptop alot and it will hold it. It might also be possible your bios battery is dead.

From what I say I would hit power it would power for about 3 seconds the power light would flash then turn off.

My Presario v5000 is doing the same as above. Except, I let it cool for a little while and it turned on. Now it only turns off after a while. I'm not to sure exactly why that is but i could possibly be an over heating automatic shutdown procedure.

These are known for a problem with the power jack (plug in)
It's possible it hasn't been charging, running on battery power, till it finally died.
When you plug in the charger, do any lights come on?
Thanks

SOURCE: my compaq presario v5000 shut down and wont restart

Was there any sing on the desktop saying you were running from the battery before it colapsed.
I ask because it can be two things that have done it.

The most likely is a dead motherboard. They do just fail and that's it..Just like anything electrical.

The second (and this isn't bad) is a faulty power connector on the motherboard.
Plug the power lead into it, grab the plug about 1 inch from the laptop then GENTLY move it left right up and down, and in circles while GENTLY pushing inwards at the same time.
While you are doing this, either lean around so you can see the power lights on the laptop or have someone else watch them and see if anything happens at all. Any flicker of lights etc. If so, try and find that spot, hold it, and press the power button.

This will require a bit of work to correct and best left to professionals.

Hi Thanks for your question
The best and the easiest solution to this is replace the hard drive and install fresh windows. There is nothing wrong with computer itself. It's bad hard drive not letting Operation System Load.

UNMOUNTABLE______BOOT_____VOLUME ***Stop: 0 X

It could be a problem with the harddrive and memories ,if you enter the DELL bios setup page when the computer starts up does it have an option to test the hard drive if so test it.
Also if you have two memory sticks then try with only one and vice versa.

Try booting with another boot CD like the ultimate boot CD it has some hard drive testing tools too.

Good Luck
