I have a maytag epic frontoad washer, model number mfw9800tq0, that doesn't appear to be draining. And now there is a mildew smell coming from it. what is the problem and how do i fix it?
Thanks in advance.
The filter is in the front on this one. Under the door, there is another panel. There are 3 screws that a 1/4" nut driver takes off pretty easily. Get a bowl and bucket. There is a white screw cap that you should easily see. Open it slowly with the bowl underneath. Close it again when the bowl is filled and dump the bowl into the bucket. Repeat until no more water comes out then unscrew it completely. Clean out the trap and replace. There is a stop that prevents you from overtightening. See if that works. A six dollar nutdriver is easier and cheaper than any repairman.
I had a go with older model , there could be something blocked in the pump , which you access from the front . If you let it run any longer the wheel from the pump will drop off , you ll find it uner washing mashine .The smell would be from the belt rubbing the most likely rubbing belt .
Other thing you can check when you ll be there is to blow / clean presure hose to the presure switch ..
Check the following to address this issue.
1. Clogged drain line or water pump
Check to see if there's something stuck inside the pump or the drain
hose connected to the pump (pump is usually located at the bottom
and towards the back of the washing machine).
2. Water Pump
If the drain line isn't clogged, you may have a problem with the
water pump such as a frozen pulley or a broken impeller. If that's
the case replace the water pump. Note: if you have a belt driven
washer, check the belt(s) for cracks, as this would be a perfect
time to replace the belt(s) if need
