Hi,
you,ll need to go to compaqs support site, if theres a system recovery partition on your hard-drive. you press F9 or similar on boot-up. Alternatively is to try and aquire a system restore CD for that model. this will correct any faulty-corrupt Drivers et,c.

SOURCE: Connect Laptop to TV
if your saying is connect to TV and use the TV as your monitor.
if your laptop have S-Video out
you need S-Video cable ( you can buy S video cable to RCA cable)
all TV have RCA input so this is plug n play
next option is connect from VGA port
this is possible if your TV have DVI input...you need only the VGA to DVI cable
if you have this...all you need is configure you laptop...
right click on desktop
select properties
select setting tab
you will see to monitor
select number 2 and check extend my monitor...
click apply
if you are connected by VGA port..you can do the instruction above or do the press and hold Fn key + F8
then you are using external monitor
SOURCE: why has screen gone black
Sounds like either your backlight bulb has failed or the inverter that powers the bulb has failed or a connection has come loose from the inverter to the LCD panel. Unless the laptop was "Jarred" or dropped, I doubt the bulb has burned out....most likely if no damage occued, the inverter has failed or there is a loose connection with the inverter.

Hi,
As soon as you press the power button, start tapping F11, you will get HP System Recovery screen, follow the on screen instructions and your computer will be back to factory settings.
* Note: All data will be wiped clean.

While many problems can be solved by less drastic measures, Compaq owners sometimes need to restore their computers back to factory new condition.
If the operating system becomes corrupt, or if the computer is struck with a persistent virus, restoring the PC to its original factory default settings is often the best way to deal with the problem.
While older Compaqs relied on restore CDs to restore factory settings, newer machines come with a recovery partition built into the unit.
Shut down the Compaq computer and wait for it to power off.
Press the "Power" button to restart it.
Press the "F11" key as soon as you see a black screen.
This will boot the Compaq into the recovery partition.
Follow the on-screen instructions to back up any user files before the recovery process begins.
Click "Next" to start the recovery manager and follow the on-screen instructions.
Hope this helps.
