Washing machine won't drain or finish cycle

I have a Fisher & Paykel GWL 10 washing machine which will not drain; therefore, it never finishes the cycle.

1) I've unplugged it several times (as recommended in the manual), but so far, that hasn't helped.

2) I've attempted to put it through the last cycles several times, but it always stops without draining.  Lights blink on and off and there is a constant beep.

3) I've checked both hot & cold hoses - they are on.

4) I cannot tell if any water is siphoning out of the washer because the hose is taped into the drain hole.

I hope you can help.

Thank you.

Additionally, the water continues to come in from the right side while it should be draining out.

I've also tried the fix the problem by puting it through other cycles.

It sounds like you have a drain pump stopped up or failed. Do you hear any noise when it is supposed to be draining? A humm or buzz?

If the machine is not overflowing, then what is happening is the diverter valve has failed or has something in it causing it to stick.

If the diverter valve is not situated properly, when the pump comes on to pump the water out, it will recirculate the water back into the tub just as it does in the wash cycle.

You will need to completely drain the water from the washer and get to the pump underneath the machine and remove the diverter valve from the pump to see if some small article has gotten into the valve causing it to stick.

If it is clear of any obstruction, we will need to walk through some diagnostic checks with a volt/ohm meter to see if the problem is the valve or the machine controller.

Post back and let me know what you find out.

    Thanks/Mike

Without being smart...buy a new machine. It sounds as though the timer is dying...therefore slowing down...therefore extending cycle times. If that's the case, a new timer will cost about half the cost of a new machine.

Balance Issues

Depending on the model you have the gwl 10 and 11 have a bal sw located under the console the sw may be engaging causing your problem. ( maybe corroded or shorted ) Or in later and current models they also have bal/shock struts on each side, one of the four maybe worn causing your unit to go out of bal.
