Hi i have a compaq presario v4000 and all of a sudden the computer will not start up and when turned on just takes me to a screen saying windows did not start successfully a recent hardware or software change might have caused this. it gives me options to start in safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration and start windows normally; however i have tried doing this on all options and it trys to launch windows but brings me back to the same page. can you please help?
Hi,, this compaq is fucking,,,,,,,, even i got the same problem
Hey guys,
i got something that might work but for you guys, i had a similer problem.
what you do is do a full format and load windows xp, pref sp2, then
connect your laptop to the internet via an ethernet cable (larger
lookking phone cable) and go onto hp's website and select your model
and ONLY download the drivers for every piece of hardware that is
relivent to you and once you've done that install the drivers you
downloaded one by one and restart where applicable.
When restarting go into the bios via the F10 key as the system starts
up and change your boot order to 1: cd rom 2: hdd 3: doesn't really
matter here onwards.
after installing all your drivers and and configuring your bios restart
one final time and everything should be fine. But i have experienced on
problem that happens upon start up for me, it won't boot off the hdd.
solution - have a windows operating system cd in your drive when
booting (only tested with xp and vista discs) it will say press any key
to boot from cd, don't press anything and once it goes away it won't
boot from the cd and will then continue to boot of th hdd. go figure.
review:
reformat and install xp (vista will work but complicates things with some drivers)
download drivers and install one by one while restarting where applicable
change bios boot order via F10 key to 1:cd rom 2:hdd
if any problems load a windows os disc (xp or vista) and where it says 'press any key to boot from cd' or something like that DO NOT PRESS ANYTHING. afterwards it will boot into windows
:-)
good luck all
For unknown reasons, only the computer gods know what happened. You need a new system board for your laptop. You can buy one and fix yourself or have a computer shop replace it. Your probably better off buying one off the internet and take it somewhere to have them replace it.
I found a brand spankin new one for you on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Compaq-Presario-V4000-915GM-System-Board-383463-001_W0QQitemZ170158400649QQcmdZViewItem

I have the same problem...does any one have any ideas
computer will not reboot,
Same problem here. Anybody?
I've loaded old images as far back as 4 months, i've reinstalled the base install files, i'm on the verge of formatting and trying again from scratch but to me it sounds like a hardware issue. I tested this out by just simply opening the dvd-rom drive back and forth a few times during stalled boot ups and it actually let me into windows. the problem however is that this is a short term fix, crashes still happen, and sometimes the dvd drive won't show up as detected in windows, which requires a restart. In the meantime try this yourselves guys to get back into your computers, and go ahead and back up your files and be ready to possibly just format and start from absolute zero.
I have a compaq v4000 and it has crashed and keeps telling me that a file is missing or corrupt. message says windows system32\config\system. Have tried to install operating system cd to repair but just keeps going around in a loop back to same message.
I have the same issue. I have tried reformatting and installing the start up discs that came with the system as well as installing windows. I think I have the system stable again however I do not have any sound and my built-in wireless internet is not working. I am very frustrated at this point. Been working on this problem going on 7 hours now. ARRRRGGGGHHH.
how to format this laptop. pls provide all steps.
