Will not clean dishes on the upper rack

The unit will not clean on the upper rack. Water is hot. top spray (attached to the top of the machine) does not rotate when in use. Spray under the upper rack rotates during use. Could there be water leakage between the vertical manifold that delivers water to the upper rack spray resulting in low pressure to the upper sprays?

Make sure you get water to the dishwasher. Check to see if the water shut-off valve (located under the sink) is open. If you get water to the dishwasher, but there is still no water inside during the fill cycle, the problem might be with a faulty water valve (located at the bottom of the dishwasher, behind the kick panel, on either side), in which case replace the water valve.

If there is not enough water, the dishes would not get cleaned. This could be caused by a partially closed water shut-off valve (located under the sink), or a faulty dishwasher water valve (located at the bottom of the dishwasher, behind the kick panel, on either side).

There is usually two, sometimes three spray arms in a dishwasher. Make sure there is no debris blocking the holes inside each spray arm.

Why is the upper sray arm is not working in kitchenaid model KUDR01TJ

There are 2 spray arms for the top rack. A small one on the dishwasher top and a bigger one attached to the bottom of the upper rack. Both get water feed from a flat tube that runs up the back wall of the dishwasher. Not much to the very top little arm--just check the spray holes for any food blockage and try to clean with a brush or tooth pick. The bigger arm on the bottom of the top rack gets its water feed through a hole about half way up the flat tube on the back wall. When you push the rack all the way in, it has to plug itself into that hole in the back wall. Check that plug in area and make sure nothing broke off that would keep it from making a good seal with the rack all the way in. All check all the holes in the spray arm for food blockages. On the very end of all spray arms is a main hole that is the drive hole to spin the spray arm. The water shoots out that hole and acts like a jet engine to push the arm around. Make sure those holes are clear.

Leaving grit on dishes that are mainly on top row

The upper spray arm is powered by water from a tube that runs up the back of your machine on the inside. If the connection is not aligned, then the water can't get to the spray arm. My children use to knock mine out of kilter when they loaded the lower section. It's easy to see if the supports are not attached to the upper rack and a simple snap will get them back in place.
You may have clogged jets in the upper spray arm.It will need to be removed so that you can soak it in hot soapy water and then flush it with hot water. You may also need to take a toothpick or tweezer to remove any debris that clogs the jets.
Finally, check the bottom of your door on the inside of the dishwasher. It's amazing the "gunk" that can collect there. This gunk can be redistributed to your dishes. I put some soapy water in a cup and use an old toothbrush to clean this area. Then I rinse twice with hot water. Finally run the dishwasher with 1/2 cup of white vinegar while empty.
This should take care of your gritty dishes. I hope so. If it does, please come back to Fixya and rate my advice!

My dishwasher is not cleaning the dishes on the top rack. there seems to be water dripping from the top inside of the dishwasher but the dishes are not being cleaned. I am making sure the funnel on the top...

There is a pipe/tube that runs up the back of the inside of your dishwasher. This provides water for the top spray arm. The spray arm has a feeder tube that covers the pipe in the back. If for some reason the feeder tube has come dislodged, the water just drips back down into the dishwasher, never touching your upper shelf. My kids used to jam cutting boards and other large items into the lower shelf and in so doing, would dislodge the upper spray arm feeder tube. Just pull out the upper shelf and check to see that the tube is in the correct position. This should solve the problem.

If not, then the spray arm may have debris in it that keeps the water from being forced through the jets. You'll need to flush the arm with the spray attachment on your kitchen sink. I sometimes use tweezers or a toothpick to dislodge bits of peelings, paper, or bone that manage to get into the sprayer arm.
I hope one of these tips helps. If it does, please come back to fixya and rate my answer.

My dishes on the top rack are not coming out clean. We checked the spray things and they are not clogged. The top rack items are gritty and stale type water.

Make sure there is nothing obstructing the upper spray arm(dishes). Also, make sure the upper basket connects to the water inlet hole in the back of the tub, when it is pushed in all the way

Help! Same white residue and even pro can't figure it out!

Hi,

It sounds like a washability problem. A couple of things to check.

See if the bottom and top spray arms are free turning. Then look closely at the holes to make sure they are not plugged with anything.

The rest of this applies if you have mode KUDG25SH, if you have a different model number on the tag inside the door let me know and ignore the rest here.

You may have a split in the upper spray arm feed tube. If you slide the upper rack out and look under it you will see the spray arm(propeller looking) under and behind there is a vinyl tube also attached to the rack, look that tube over good, if it is broken or cracked you are loosing water pressure that does the washing.

Let me know what you find and I can help more if needed

Bottom rack cleans fine, top rack doesn't clean at all - can I take apart the top spray arm?

yes, the spray arm can be removed and cleaned out.

Also, clean the 3rd (very top spray area) located attached to the top of the dishwasher. You want to make sure this small (1 inch size) piece can spin freely, so water can rinse the upper rack items.

Residue and small particles left in upper rack dishes and glasses. maytag mbh940aww dishwasher. Is there a filter to clean?

Hi,

Probably a blocked spray arm. Remove the top spray arm and check and clean all the holes as this is where the water sprays out from to clean the dishes and glasses. When they are blocked you get poor wash results.

Yes there will also be a filter in the base of the unit to clean. This needs to be done regularly to avoid food getting into the working parts of the unit.

Our Kitchenaid isn't cleaning the dishes, especially the top rack.

check that the upper rack water feed tube is inserting properly to tube inlet.you can verify this by observing under the top rack near the rear of unit closest to the back wall of tub....chances are the manifold is going "beside'the tube instead of properly enclosing tube so water will feed into spray arm vs shooting at the door
