Is the lens cover open? (Make sure battery is fully charged) go into the menu and reset the camera make sure it's switched to auto and try again. I assume you have looked at the photos on a monitor? If they are absolutely black with no noise it's the processor.

SOURCE: Viewfinder Blank

This suggests the mirror is stuck up in the take position. Remove the Lens and look at what is behind it In the rest mode you should see a mirror. If it is stuck up you would see the sensor window Which do you see. with the lens off - can the camera be switched on? This might just drop the mirror The mirror is surface silvered - do not touch it. If it still up then it is a repair shop/warranty replacement job.

This sounds like a broken or cracked LCD screen. The backlite is working, thus you will get the white screen. The LCD could also be disconnected internally, or has other problems. But this is a direct problem with the LCD.
A camera like this can usually take pictures, and you may be able to use it to set the menus by using the video cable to the TV or computer screen (some flat screens have video inputs).

SOURCE: Taking a black and white photo.

You can't, there is no black and white mode on the D50. You will need to take color photos and convert them with photo editing tool.

My camera turns on and shows the menu icons on a black screen. I can take a picture, and the flash works, but nothing is captured. After I take the black picture it works just fine, though.

Please contact your nearest Nikon Dealer the connectors of the Screen at the back are loose / happens sometimes, as far as we had the Problems (owners of Photo chain stores) Nikon always regarded is as a Guarantee Replacement.

LCD Display is Black

the image in the LCD monitor will darken in strong sunlight or bright light. This is normal occurrrence in device CCDs and does not contitute a malfunction. This image will not be recoded when shooting still photos, but it will be recorded wihen shooting movies.Read you owner manual and adjust the MENU, according with your o. manual.Otherwise you must go the repair shop

Hi, I have a Canon IXUS 95IS camera.. For some reason, when I attempt to take a photo, the LCD screen isn't displaying what is actually in view? In movie mode it comes up on the screen but when i flick it...

Ah yes! you have pressed the display button. Turn the camera on and you see the icons in the display, look for the Disp button and press it, the display will cycle through its modes icons, black, image and icons.

Blank screen

Try this...if you can still get into the setup menu, scroll to "reset" and follow the on-screen instructions. If not, remove the memory card and battery...press all the buttons...leave the camera alone for 20 minutes...insert the card and then the battery...turn it on. Did that help?

Screen black in all lighting. Icons and menu show and can view photos already on card, but screen black in all modes. Can take picture, but it is also black. Lens cover is open. Nikon Coolpix 4600. Thanks...

Hello, I went and researched a few points in the manual and hope this helps to some extent. If this doesn't help, try resetting your camera by removing the batteries for 30 seconds, then reinstalling them and turning on the camera again.
Monitor is blank:
• Camera is off.
• Batteries are not correctly inserted or battery-chamber
cover is not properly latched.
• Batteries are exhausted.
• EH-62B AC adapter (available separately) is not properly
connected.
• Camera is in sleep mode. Press shutter-release button
halfway.
• Monitor is off.
• USB cable is connected.
• AV/Video cable is connected

No picture is taken when shutter release button is pressed:

• Camera is in playback mode.
• Batteries are exhausted.
• Red (!) lamp flickers: flash is charging.
• Green (AF) lamp flickers: camera unable to focus.
• Message "CARD IS NOT FORMATTED" appears in
monitor: memory card is not formatted for use in your
camera.
• Message "OUT OF MEMORY" appears in monitor:
insufficient memory to record picture at current Image
mode setting.

Taking Black and White pictures on a Canon A430

Place the camera in manual mode (M on the dial). Pess the 'Function' button and icons will appear at the right of the screen. Select the second to the last icon, this is the "My Colors" menu. Press the right keypad button until you have selected "BW" for black and white.

LCD Display Blank

I have a sony cybershot DSC-S650, the LCD was very dark and could not see anything except if I pointed it at a bright object, everything else worked ok. I could take pictures but could barely see them in playback as well.

I took it to Sony authorised repair outlet and was told the CCD was damaged, they charged me USD $55 to repair it (in Quito, Ecuador)
