How do I connect my outside speakers to play?

How do I connect my outside speakers to my Onkyo TX-SR705 receiver to play outside, but not have the speakers (surround sound) on inside the house? My old JVC receiver just had an A/B button you pushed. The Onkyo is talking about a Zone 2 that only hooks up with analog connectors. My speakers are wired with 20 gauge wire that lead into the house and into my receiver. I just want to play music thru the 2 speakers that are wired on the back of my house when we are in the pool. I don't want to hear it in the house at the same time. Help!

The onkyo should still have a speaker A/B selector in the menu.
Check on the back panel for speaker A/B.
If it has or you decide to use Zone 2 you will need to set the sound programme to "stereo" so the rears and centre do not work.
You can still use a digital source.
You should be able to display the amp's menu on the screen.
Hook up "monitor out" (Yellow) via RCA connector to one of the "A/V inputs" (yellow) on the tv, this will show you a display of the menu and will make it eaiser to navigate.

We wired our new home to have outdoor speakers and also speakers to our pool room. Before putting the receiver back into place after wiring the back, we quickly touched a speaker's wires to the wires...

It's not really clear if all of this is Zone 2 or not, or if you intend a second program to play in Zone 2.

If your Zone 2 is to a powered amplifier and its speakers the Zone 2 output would be FIXED (not variable from the host TX-SR705), that is, at a level that the receiving amplifier would control.

Page 99 deals with it.

Having just passive speakers in Zone 2 requires you to set Zone 2 to "ACT(ive)".

Trying to connect two outdoor speakers

More than likely you connected it to the Speaker B terminals in the rear of your receiver. Look for a button or switch on the front and change to either Speaker B for outside only or A&B for indoors and outdoors.

"The blue light around my volume dial does not light

Try resetting the receiver (you will lose your setup). I recently reset my receiver and the blue light returned. It's possible that the Audacity setup turns off the blue light because the volume is now being "regulated" by the equalizer.

Onkyo TX-SR706; Turntable output only from one speaker

Try some troubleshooting to check whether its the turntable or the the receiver.

What happens if you exchange the output cables of the turntable from left to right. Does the problem shift?
Does the sound changes from left to right speaker?

Similarly try on the inputs of the Receiver.. does the problem shift...?
This way you will be able to isolate the problem, whether with the receiver or the turntable....

Let me know, we can trouble shoot it further....

Volume on my Onkyo Receiver

Yes it is. I have the 705. My room mate has the 605. Both AVR's will not have appreciable volume until 50 on the dial.
The dial in not linear. I don't know of anyone who has plotted the scaling of the volume control yet.
I have found much useful user info on avsforum.com. Owners post Q&A based on experiences.
Search the forum for "official onkyo TX-SR605" thread.
Some comparable info may also be found under the "official onkyo TX-SR705".
