Smoking amp will my amp still work if it smoked when i hooked up the battery why did it do that???? The battery was pretty dead so could it be from not having enough power in the battery or what is the problem or do i have 2 buy a whole new amp???

Re-check battery terminals for clean/tighteness. sounds like your losing a contact there. Smoking from where? if its at the battery posts,there is your problem

if its new and it smoked you need to run it to the ignition fuse in your car and see what happens if it still does it its fried

This entry reminds me of my first install. My friend and I would hook up stereos, not knowing what we were doing. We thought radios ran on smoke, and if you hook it up wrong you let the smoke out. (laugh). But seriously, if there is smoke coming out of the equipment STOP. Your equipment is malfunctioning or you have something incorrectly hooked up to it. If this is a subwoofer or speaker that is smoking, it is telling you the voice coils are getting hot and it is about to fail. Again, more than likely, faulty equipment (it's hard to jack up hooking up a speaker). Anyways, if it's an amp, check the wiring. If the amp is smoking that means that there is something shorting on the motherboard. Might be time to look for different equipment or use that handy dandy warranty. Hope this helps.

Well, sounds like you have an internal damage since it smokes, if it smokes as soon as it kicks on, and blowing the fuse right away, I would have it fixed. But my guess would be something with the ground that is making this happen, or some how your power is grounding on the amp. When ever smoke comes into play, thats never good any way at this point you gotta admitt that thiers internal damage.. blowing fuses can also be cause by over working your amp. along with the sub load at 1 ohm make sure your amp can do the same.. hope this was helpful in some way

it is dead... it's channels blew up when you saw that smoke. sorry for the bad news

Okay, what you seem to be saying is the battery does not turn over the engine and the battery smokes when you jump it to start it. But the lights and radio and everything works except the car will not turn over by itself. The battery smokes because either the battery has a short in it, it smokes because the starter is dragging, and/or the jump wires are not hooked up red to red and black to black. You need to have the battery and starter checked. If the car runs take it to an autoparts place to test. Or if it won't run take out the battery have it tested and if it is good, then take out the starter to test it.

Gee I would think that it is kind of obvious; your amp is blown. Just because it doesn't blow fuses doesn't mean much. If you hook the power up to the ground input and the ground to the power and then turn it on you pretty much toasted the amplifier. If you don't know why the amp is smoking, but you're trying to fix it yourself, you are basically telling me that you have no business doing so. I have been an installer for 15 years and even I am not dumb enough to try to fix a bad amplifier. Do everyone a REALLY big favor; stop messing around with something that you don't understand of have knowledge about before you hurt yourself.

Sounds like you may have a shorted switching Transistor in the switch mode power supply causing a short to ground. If you are technical enough. Remove power remove cover and do a continuity test on the transistors on the heatsink. non of them should read zero resistance between the three legs. in all connection configuration you use to hook up your meter. If one or Two or even all of them do you must replace with proper part.
