Letting the smoke out of your amps is clearly not good. If you got the polarity wrong and there was no reverse current protection, it could smoke. You must consider that there was some kind of short or serious component failure involved because circuit breaker and fuse design usually prevents this. I can only speculate that if you plug it in the same way you did before, it may need some nicotine gum. Just do it outside on cement or asphalt (fire hazard) not installed in your car.
The only way you'll know is by hooking it up and testing it. Amps should not smoke, so there's a pretty good chance you fried it.
