E6 means the machine is seizing somewhere and the motor is working too hard to turn the hard-to-turn machine. Get is serviced before it seized completely and the cost of repair goes even higher.

E6 is an error code. You didn't state the model number, but if you look in your instruction manual, it will list the error codes. If you don't have a manual, go to Brother.com and you can get the answer.
I kept looking for a bobbin problem (because this is what the book that comes with the machine indicated as the cause. As it turned out, somehow the thread on the TOP slid off the wire thingy that goes up and down when sewing. I noticed it totally by accident. After re-threading the machine, it worked like a charm.
