I have same problem. I turn on the camera you hear it trying to come on, shows display pic for like 3 seconds and then shuts down. If I could get the lens to retract I am sure the camera would work.

SOURCE: lens error

yes, this happened to me, what you have to do is "snap" the lens back in place, if it is bent anyway. if it is not bent and it says lens error, does it the lens come in and out? if not then it is bent if so then there is a hardware error in the switch and you will have to send it to a profesionall. :) hope i could be some help :)

SOURCE: Canon PowerShot SX100 IS Lens Stuck

If the lens does not extend/retract when the camera is powered on, then lens assembly is damaged.

Unfortunately, such Canon SX100 (and the SX110 too) has a very fragile lens assembly, and it's damaged very easily. Most of the times the internal gears, the plastic post guides and the motor are damaged at the same time, so the only solution is to replace the whole lens assembly.

The lens replacement requires a qualified camera repair technician, unless you want to try in repair it yourself, which requires tools (scredrivers, soldering iron, desoldering tool, magnifier glass with light, etc).

Best regards,

How do i fix a Lens error in canon powershot elph 300hs?

None of the suggested solutions worked for me and my Elph 300HS. However, I took it apart, removing the back. There was a screw inside holding on the front panel which I could not budge no matter what, so I gave up. I put it back together, reinserted the battery, powered on and voila, it was back to normal. Perhaps disconnecting the battery for a while was key. Had I not tried the multi-step approach suggested, it would still be stuck.

I dropped my Powershot SD 500 and now the lens cover does not cover the lens. It leaves a gap when closed and does not retract all the way when open. It seems that the resolution on some of my photos is...

A bit of gentile persuasion may be necessary.
Have you tried to push the lens into the camera body?
I believe that the camera has lost track of where the lens is in it's range of travel.

use your finger and see if a small amount of pressure will put the lens back ito position.

In the end, this is not a new camera, if it is dead a better replacement can be had for as little as 120 $US

Lens cap stuck

I was messing around with this today, ended up where it seemed in was working.

Power up, let lens out, then take out batteries. Pry off silver band patiently using fingernails. Then pry off overlying black plastic piece. There are four units underneath, pay attention to how these are put on, mine popped off, but it wasn't too hard to figure out how to put back together. There are pins and holes and kind of fits like a jigsaw. Once off clean with alcohol where you can.

Put batteries back in and open and close a few times. This will help understand movement where pins of lens cover pieces go. When putting these back on make sure camera is in off position.

The lens cover pieces need to be put on so that the pin portion has some resistance. Move one so that it drops in then push up to get other in place. Let them come together and hold these in place.

The two smaller pieces will close the cover. Put the hole of the closer piece over the pin. Then move slightly so you can retract spring with a small instrument and subsequently engages pin on closer. Place top black piece back on, then silver.

This worked for me, hope it does you also! Good luck.

Black screen, loud beeping when opened, doesn't work

The following blog outlines some simple repair options for a lens error. But please first try the listed Fix #2. I heard that fix particularly works well for a camera who's battery had run down with the lens open. Please post back here with a follow up comment if any of the fixes work:

The Lens Error usually means the lens has sand or another obstruction stopping it from retracting.
