Craftsman Garage Door Opener won't work after storm

I have a Craftsman garage door opener Model 139.53990D. We had a lightning storm and the next morning the door went up when I pushed the inside button on the wall, but door would not go down when I pushed the button on my remote or the wall. When I push either the wall button or remote button I can hear a clicking sound at the opener, but nothing happens. The lights on the opener work fine. The wall button which has a light is on and the the wall button will turn on and off the lights on the garage door opener. Is this thing shot or is there something that I can do with it?

Check to see if the trolley (the part that slides back and forth on the rail and is connected to the door) is jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. If so, remove the bolt and run the door until it is closed. On the side of the motor unit there is an 'up limit' control. Turn this 3 turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Be sure to replace the bolt.

I had this same issue, but it is not jammed against the bolt. The signal light is flashing 5 times. I tried unplugging the unit to reset it, but it is still not working. Only hearing the click. Any suggestions?

Lightning may have hit garage opener. Not working anything I can check

Lightning loves logic boards. You can remove the board and check for missing traces on the printed circuit. Unfortunately this is fairly common.

My Craftsman Garage Door opener stopped working.

The most common part to go bad in these openers when lighting hits them is the logic board. Look for a white and black label that has your model number on it. Go to http://www.usdoorcontrol.com/manufacturers-other.html and find the newest revision board that is made. Repairing this problem is easy.

My garage door bucks like a bronco

You have a door problem. The reason the door is reversing to the open position is because when it bucks the safety senses something wrong. Release the door from the opener and operate it by hand. You should find something.

Craftsman garrage door opener not operating after thunder storm

If you had an lightning storm you most likely have a bad logic board. That is not a reset button you are pressing.

My garage door opener stoped working after a storm.

TRY TO REPROGRAM THE REMOTES TO THE OPENER - THESE UNITS CAN LOSE THE MEMORY DURING STORMS.

I WOULD SUGGEST ADDING A SURGE PROTECTOR AT THE PLUG IN TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO YOUR UNIT IN THE FUTURE.

Replace the logic board. I have seen this problem in the field. More often than not it's due to power surge or lightning strike.
