If the power light is blinking amber, the computer is receiving electrical power, but an internal power problem might exist.
Try, unplugging the power cable from the pc, and reinsert it, if this does not help try a differnt power outlet, if this dont help, open the computer, take the power Molex conector out of the mother board and try turning it on, if this dont help, take out the Memory modules and reseat them, if this dont work you may want to ring up dell support.

Hope this helps!

A solid green light means the computer is operating normally.

A solid yellow light indicates the power supply is operating normally but the computer is not processing data.

This could mean there is a problem with the CPu or another component on the motherboard.

((A blinking yellow light indicates the power supply is receiving power from the wall, but not functioning properly.
This generally means the power supply itself is bad and should be tested or replaced.))

A blinking green light means the computer is in standby mode.

You should consider visiting Dell Support and downloading the manual for your

your Dell computer. So use the LED power light codes if your Dell computer has them.

Dimension 3100 turns on the power button has a steady orange light there is also an orange light on motherboard cpu and power suplly fans working but wont bot up

Blinking amber (orange) indicates a problem with the power supply inside the computer. If the system cannot boot and there is a solid amber light, this could indicate a problem with the power connections for the CPU on the system board (see "Power Problems" in your Owner's Manual).

The start green light on our dell dimension 9100 is blinking amber. I can turn off the machine and back on but machine won't boot up. Any ideas? span.jajahWrapper { font-size:1em; color:#B11196;...

If you see the boot screen, then it is a problem with your operating system (windows)
If you do not see the boot screen, then it is the power supply or the motherboard isn't working.
If it turns green but you never see the screen come on, then it may be the video or the monitor.
If it does go directly to blinking amber, it is probabbly the power supply. It should only take a little while for a computer person to plug in another power supply and test it.
You can actually take a power supply out of someone elses computer and plug it in (don't even have to mount it in the computer)
Plug in the motherboard plug(s) and the hard drive only, then attempt to start.
If it does work, it is your power supply, if not then it is your motherboard.

Flashing amber light

Flashing amber is normally a failed power supply. So replace the power supply ($50 to 100 depending on the size you buy) Recommend 500 Watt or higher.

Amber light on power button of Dell Dimension 4500

ok - the amber light of doom on a dell means one of two things - either your power supply is pooched - or your motherboard, If under warranty dell will send out a friendly tech to replace them - if not it will cost you a bit. get the price and consider if it worth upgrading instead. Contact your dell rep or dell tech support and see what they say

cheers Pete
