Screen Blackout Hp Pavillion DV9000 laptop 17 inche screen. When the adapter is on, the screen flickers, then goes black. To bring it back I press FN and F4 - it may come back for a second or two, then black out again. After pressing Fn and F4 numerous times, it may or may not come back on. If I remove the power adapter, and press FN and F4, the screen is fine. It's very strange. I feel it is a display configuration or power adapter problem. Can you help?

This is a known problem with certain HP and Compaq laptops. Check out the link below to see if you qualify for the free service enhancement program. The same thing happened to me and HP is sending me a postage paid box to mail my laptop to them and they are going to fix it and mail it back.

How to connect a Monitor to laptop

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector
You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8

HP pavillion dv9000 has black horizontal lines across screen and looks like a snowy background

Sounds like the screen is going bad. Isolate the problem by plugging an external monitor to the laptop. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker to plug to the laptop. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If the Borrowed monitor does not show the black lines and snowy background, that proves your video card is ok and the problem is your lcd screen. If the borrowed monitor shows the same black lines ans snowy background it means your video card inside the computer has the issue.

The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

Dv 9000 what lcd fits it

1) 17 inch WXGA (1440 X 900 Pixels)

Here's an example;

http://www.screentekinc.com/HP_Pavilion_DV9000_Series_DV9009NR--17-inch--1440x900-wxgaplus-laptop-lcd-screen.shtml

Another one;

MAIN THING > Match the Part Number on the back of the LCD screen to the one you are going to purchase.

It isn't just whether the screen is the correct size, and dimensions. Whether it is a glossy finish, or matte.
It is that the cabling on the back of the LCD screen is correct, and the LCD screen matches the Inverter that is installed.

My print screen button doesn't work on my dv9000 and i have tried EVERYTHING

On my HP Pavilion DV9500 with Win7 64 bit (laptop was new in 2007 and had Vista), I have the same problem, and I press FN-insert/scroll key and this works as the print screen button. That's the function key together with the insert key, which is 2 buttons to the left of the print screen key.

The screen is black on start up. No image at all.

The dv1000's were a limited edition notebook withmany issues. the motherboard going on them was one of them. connect the motebook to a desktop monitor if you have one and simultaneously press Fn + F4 to use the monitor as a screen. If nothing happens begin crying. Time to buy a new laptop. You information is safe but you need an IDE/SATA PCI adapter to view the files on another computer. If you were using XP, i hope you didn't password protect it making it private. That will be problem number 2.

I have a hp pavillion dv2315nr laptop with a black screen. In the past, I was always able to resolve the issue by pressing fn/f4 at start up which worked but takes a long time to kick in. Now however...

when you power up the press F8 key then enter in enable vga mode then go to control panel ->display ->settings ->change screen resolution to 1024*768 then apply and ok then restart .
Thanks for using fixya.
Please rate solution if it helps.

Screen is complete blackout when I turn on my hp compaq c6000

You either have a screen that has gone and needs to be replaced or a cheaper fix and usually a more likely one is that the inverter in the screen has gone out. The inverter is quite cheap, around $34.00. Try it
