Sounds like video problem.
My wife has one of these and it died.
One file came up corrupt and then after I restored it the system would just drop power without warning.
Then would hang in safemode at an ATI sys file for the video.
It's on the mainboard. These also have built in RAM problems too.
You can try to remove any additional RAM you may have added in the bottom slot and try to boot.
My best advice is get a $20 best buy/staples 2.5" USB HDD enclosure and throw the HDD in there and toss the leftovers on Ebay with an explanation.
You'll get $100-150 for it to help buy yourself a new one.
Sell the LCD as one deal, the keyboard another, AC adapter another and so on. You'll get more that way.
I'd go Fujitsu. Toshiba used to be good but they went to **** to compete with HP/Compaq and sell at Walmart.
Gateway is also decent. The key is newer laptops run too hot and end up toast in a year or two.
Buy something a little less frantic in the GhZ dept. and it will last longer.
Pushing a laptop for gaming or 3D graphics is hardly it's best use. Manufacturers are too busy adding flashy selling points instead of practical features like lighter weight and longer battery life.

Check the memory modules. Test one at a time to see if any of them is damaged. If you have only one, try a borrowed chip, or test yur modules in a borrowed laptop (it doesn't have to be the same brand/model, only the chips must be the same speed).

It has a memory problem, take the laptop to your local store and ask if they will test the memory for you, if it is the problem then you will have to purchase a new memoy module.

If it doesnt beep then you have a problem with your RAM or your motherboard. Try reseat your RAM first.
