The BIOS may have reset to the default settings. Sounds like this was originally a workstation on a Corporate Domain Network. Access the BIOS and reset the boot order for CD first, then Hard Drive - you can even disable Network as a boot option. Power spike won't affect the Hard Drive contents, but it can reset a BIOS. Your win2000 should be intact.

Hello,
This should be pretty easy to fix. I have seen this many times before. Here's what to do:
Go into device manager and expand 'universal serial bus controllers'.
Start at the very bottom, and start deleting the usb root hubs one by one. You will lose your touchpad control at some point, as the touchpad is actually a usb device. One of thwo things will happen.
1. The usb hubs will automatically be re-detected and re-installed.
2. You will just lose touchpad control after deleting one of the root hubs. If this happens, then shut down using the power button, and restart. Th usb hubs will be reinstalled once you log back into windows. Please let me know if this doesn't fix it.

Sound like a driver issue. Did you do an upgrade to Win 8? If so you will have to locate drivers for the devices that Win 8 does not have stored, beeing a new OS that is a common problem on older computers.
That said, does your volume work ? Can you use the tray icon to control volume? Is the audio working at all?

try a different route go to my computer then system properties then device manager select the wireless adapter and uninstall the driver forget the websites that you downloaded from, right click the wirless adapter and update driver software see it it helps you if not it may be that the dual boot is in conflict
