I had a similar problem that turned out to be dirt contaminated gasoline. The "fix" was always to replace the fuel filter but it would not stay fixed. In particular, each time I started having problems it was after I let the gas tank level get low.
What I did that you can consider was:
But a new fuel filter.
Get a 5 gallon gas can.filled with fresh gas.
Get some cheap gasoline proof container (or several containers) for waste gasoline.
Make a "vacuum cleaner" out of an electric in-line low pressure gas pump, some low pressure gas hose, and a couple of pieces of copper tube, 20 ft of two conductor wire, and two alligator clips. It connects hydraulically copper tube to suck out the gas tank, fuel hose, pump, fuel hose, copper tube to go into the gas can. The wire and clips are to hook the fuel pump to your car battery.
Drive the car until the fuel level is low.
Remove the fuel pump module.
Vacuum the gas tank into the waste gas container through the opening left by the fuel module. Try to get the dirt off the bottom.
When you have vacuumed all you can get, stop awhile and let the dirt settle in the waste container.
Vacuum the gasoline from the waste container back into the gas tank. Vacuum high in the container so the dirt stays in the waste. Try to wash any dirt in the gas tank to below the fuel module opening.
Stop a while and let the dirt settle.
Repeat vacuuming and washing as many times as needed to get the tank clean and empty.
Inspect the tank interior with a mirror and flashlight looking for rust, dirt, etc.
check Compression and spark. Tools(1) A compression gauge (2) a spark gap tester.(3) A Clymer service manual for your engine. (you can purchase from your local dealer). I know all these are expensive but if your going to be a outboard owner you will always need them. troubleshooting (1) check compression. I'm giving you average numbers. Look at your Clymer manual for specific numbers. all cylinders need to be over 100 lbs and equal each other within 5 lbs.(2) check spark. use a spark gap tester, all cylinders should jump a half inch gap.
Has Neon do same, I ran fuel at low level, on hot day, ran engine until it started to act up & threw a fuel pressure gauge on it. Was at approx 5 psi. Cold next morning, 48-50 psi. Always hot day about 30-40 miles into work in morning, o.k. Sit in hot sun all day & would happen 3-4 times on way home. Sit and let cool, 20 minutes or so & go again for a while. Cool day, no problem. Change pump I would.
sounds like a security issue they installed a factory security system which will prevent the vehicle from running unless its reset go to passenger door lock turn key twice it worked for me after chasing other problems for a few hours
Hello what you need to do first is determine fuel problem or spark problem when this happens again take your gas cover off the fuel filler listen for a hum from your fuel pump if its not present the pump is most likely bad if the fuel pump relay checked out good you need to test for spark buy your self a cheap spark tester that lights put it on to the coil check for spark while turning over if none present you need to trace from coil ,to ignition module, possible heating up cutting out goodluck please rate
