I have a honeywell rth230b tstat. while on a 6 day trip, i came home ot find the heat running nonstop and a temp of over 99 degrees. The display was blank. I took off and changed the batteries (there was never a low batt warning), and the heater finally shut off. (Packaged Furnace/Air Conditioner, Gas/Electric). Now the heater won't come on even though temp is under setting programmed. Itook off and tried the red/white wire trick, and heat did not come on. What kind of problem does that indicate?
Please go to the link and check graph "2.5 Installing the Batteries". Its really easy so it should be a piece of cake.https://customer.honeywell.com/resources/techlit/TechLitDocuments/69-0000s/69-1800.pdf
Testimonial: "i already stated in my initial post that I changed the batteries. The heat is not coming on though, and the temp is below the setting temp. when i turn on the fan, it blows cold air. when it's set to AUTO, it doesnt even turn on."
Well the fan only moves air, it does not cool or heat it. In auto the air should stay off until the unit requests it. If you set the tstat to "70" and its "76" inside and system is set to cold you need to call a service to rewire the tstat because its wired wrong.
Not sure where in my original post i said that i have no idea what I am talking about. I tried to be as detailed as possible. The unit kept running when the batteries dies in my tstat. I changd the batts and got it to stop running. It was over 99 degrees in my house. Ater the batts were changed, the temp is set to 66 degrees and it went down to under 60 because of a cold smnap in the area. The heat didnt come on. its set to HEAT and AUTO. When i switch from AUTO to ON, the fan blows, but its cold air. I will just call a guy today since it was assumed that I know absolutely nothing. Was told to CHANGE BATTERIES after my post had already said that I did. Then told that if the TEMP IS SET TO &) and ITS & AND THE AC DOESNT COME ON
its early morning and i am typing in the dark. what i meant to say was"Was told to CHANGE BATTERIES after my post had already said that I did. Then told that if the TEMP IS SET TO 76 and ITS 70 AND THE AC DOESNT COME ON, ITS WIRED WRONG.".

SOURCE: Honeywell T8112 Air Conditioner Will Not Cool, But Blower Works
make sure the system switch is in the cool position, then press run program button and allow a couple of minutes for system to cycle on, if it doesn't come on press the button for lowering the set point, set it to 72 degrees and then press the hold temperature key.
SOURCE: Replace battery
Yes, the battery must be replaced. Gently lift or pull of cover, the battery compartment is there. Best of wishes.
SOURCE: My Honeywell RTH230B temp control problems
