I have a Whirlpool gas dryer; model # LGR4634PQ0 that heats up initially then goes cold and stays cold. The energy saving drying feature will not shut off because the clothes never get dry.
Sounds like you need to replace the coils on the gas valve. Just make sure your venting is clear 1st. If it is, the coils are easy to replace. Remove the front panel and the coils are on the bottom right hand side. Two screws and the bracket for both comes off. One has two terminals and the other has three. Real easy once you get into the dryer.
