Freezing upon start up of computer

The best solution for you amanda would be to do a complete re-installation of Windows Operating System. As you can log in via Safe Mode, run the Recovery Manager from there so that your laptop is being set to Default Factory Settings.

Also, if you found it hectic, then here are a few tips to get your system going:

a) From Safe Mode, uninstall your antivirus program.

b) While in safe mode, restore your computer to an earlier restore point where you think the computer was working fine.

c) From Safe Mode, uninstall the programs which runs while you log in the windows

I want to restore the factory settings of my lop top

The acer has a factory restore option built onto a hidden partiotion on the hard drive that you can access during start up.

Normaly it would be F10 or via the safe options start up menu (pressing F8 repeatedly during start up)

If you wish more of an explanation and could provide a little more detail I would be pleased to assist further

I have an Eee PC 904HD/XP and i need to restore it to factory settings, is there a way to do this without the boot disc as i have no disc drive and no access to an external one

Hi Stacy:

Perhaps. Can you get into safe mode and load windows?
These days your factory image is saved on a partition on the hard drive. Once we get this fixed I strongly recommend you back that up to a disk.

As you power up/boot your computer press and hold F8. You'll get a black screen with several options one of which is Safe mode with internet access. Allow to boot to windows.

From Windows go to Control Panel, from "Tools" select "Folder Options" then "View Options" Then under "Advanced Settings" select "Show hidden files and folders" Click OK.

You may have to reboot and go back into safe mode as above.

Once you have windows back up.... Right-click the start button and select EXPLORE. This will bring you to your file structure in windows. Use the drop down to see the various drives. Your Factory settings are probably on drive H.

Let me know if you get this far.

Hi

Thank you for your query

Unfortunatley you are stuck in a windows loop, this can be a pain to deal with

You advise above that you cannot go into safe mode.

As this cannot be doen you will need to reset your laptop to factory settings with the discs provided by the manufacturer

To do reformat, simply place the CD/DVD into the drive and then allow the laptop to reset, and then follow the onscreen instructions

I hope this helps

Acer asprie 5315 running xp sp2 system restore wont work, cant perform a system restore.

Boot to safe mode by pressng F8 as soon as you start the system,
Once you are in safe mode. try to access system restore. In safe mode you will get access to the system even if it faces a severe error.

If it is complete system restore (Restore to factory defaults) which you are looking for then press ctrl+F11 as soon as you start the computer. It will wipe the entire data and restore the system to its factory settings wiping out the entire data in the system.

Computer keeps rebooting into safe mode after trying to Restore

Hold down the number "0"key and continue to hold it down as you turn on the laptop. Keep holding the key and then if the laptop makes a sound let go and hopefully it will go into the internal factory restore for your laptop.

If it doesn't then you'll need to restore your laptop with your recovery disks.

Either way the hard drive needs to be wiped out in order to get rid of the virus since it did irrepairable damage to the operating system.

If you need help with restoring your laptop back to factory defaults, let me know and I'll walk you thru it.
