Windows 7 is vastly different than windows 98. You should try compatability mode: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/make-older-programs-run#1TC=windows-7

Program trying to install has min req for windows 95/98. My computer running win 7. Is my computer too new to run old program?

Some programs have to be run after going into the programs section, identifying the specific program and click " run as Administrator". In most cases the Windows 7 will run anything for older Windows programs. Best Wishes

Still life will not run on windows 7/XP, will run on 98,but freezes up, troubleshooted compatibility and says missing dll

Here is the solution ..worked for me on windows 7 ultimate....

  • Right click the shortcut, properties and select the compatibility tab.
  • Change the program to run as WinNT 4.0 (not 98 or xp as these WON'T work).
  • Then check the box 'disable visual themes'.
  • (Unnecessary?) Check the box 'disable desktop composition' (to ward off evil spirits).
  • Lastly check the box to run this program as an admin (since windows still doesn't and probably never can have a decent security infrastructure that would allow you to run programs and games without running them with admin rights).
  • Apply and OK. Now you can run the game.

More than likely it will not. What you can do is run a virtual PC. But it also depend on if the program will run in XP or win 2000. If you have a windows 95 or 98 disk and key, then you can install it with Virtual PC from Microsoft. Check it out here:

Probably need to reinstall the program...go to the installation file, RIGHT CLICK, and click TROUBLESHOOT COMPATIBILITY ...then you can have the option to run it in a mode for Windows 98/2000 if it has problems installing in Windows 7. If it installs in Windows 7, then there's no need for this.

I have windows mail and would like outlook express. Is there somewhere I can download it for free or do I have to buy a program?

If you have Windows Mail, you no doubt are running Windows Vista. Sorry, but Outlook Express is not supported in Vista. You are stuck with Windows Mail or a third-party mail client. FYI, I use Thunderbird and am quite satisfied. It works with Windows XP through Windows 7
