Sony external hard drive: Error message "USB Device Not Recognized"

I have a Sony external hard drive, model HD-E1. Every time I plug it in Windows shows me a pop-up message on the task bar that says "USB Device Not Recognized". When I go to My Computer, it doesn't show the hard drive. I have Windows 7 and my hard drive is practically new. Can anyone help?

It is quite likely the drive is failed. If it is quite new it should still be within warranty. Return it to your place of purchase and get them to confirm it's condition. If the drive prooves faulty they should repair/replace it for you.

My Sony HD-E1 1TB hard drive is not being recognized by my laptop. The light flashes on the drive and it makes a ticking sound. how can I recover the information stored thereon?

If it is doing the tick of death then it is not likely you will be able to retrieve anything unless you have it sent to professionals for retrieval. It can be expensive too.

Got a Sumvision External 2.5 Hard drive for over a year now and today i pluged it in as normal and got the following error messages - using windows 7 also tried it in XP and it doesnt recongise the hard...

Hook up that external hard drive to another computer that you know for sure the USB ports work properly. If you still get the same error message or the drive is not recognized then that means the hard drive is bad.

If the hard drive is recognized properly and you can access the files then that means its an issue with the operating system.

I saw the message while copying even a single file from my external USB HD i-e "the request cannot be performed because of device I/O" and "digital delyed right failed" simultaneously...

Is the error occurring when reading "from" the W.D. drive,
or is the error occurring when writing "to" your internal drive?

> digital delyed right failed

Is that the exact spelling of the error-message?

No current driver for Smartdisk 120 GB HD, needed for Vista Ultimate 64bit

Any external drive uses a USB connection, and Windows Vista will recognize this "plug-and-play" device, using the built-in device-drivers.

My pc doesn't recognize my verbatim 1000gb external hard drive, error "unknown device"

Did the 1000gb external hd come with instructions?
Did you read them?
Did you Install The Software for this Device?

If not. Try plugging it in all the usb ports.
Try shutting down the PC, when it's off plug in the 1000gb external HD,
Restart the Computer, If Windows still dosen't recognize it, then it's most likely defective, and should be returned. Try purchasing a higher quality brand.
