Same thing happened to me today (after 1 day of working). I called the toll free customer service line
1-888-726-6369, told them what happened, they asked for the manufactured
month (printed on sticker on back of unit, mine wash March 2012), and will be sending a
replacement unit via fedex. Try it!
one of the power boards inside the tv has gone, which is why its blinking 5 times, which one it is i cant tell without using a multimeter on the tv. IF its only 5 months old you should ring up who you got it from and get them to fix it, as it will cost quite a bit to repair.
Try unplugging the the TV from the power outlet for 30 seconds to a minute and plug back in again. Try to turn on again. Some TV's have to be in a "ready mode" to operate by remote - so besure it is in that mode - or use the power button on the TV.
Try connecting the TV directly to a different wall outlet and check. If the issue persists, try power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue persists, then the TV requires service.

when the timer light is turn ON, tv is telling you that lamp will be going out soon, is basically a hour meter, it just reach the limit of hours that tv haves program of use for a lamp and that you can reseted by: 1.- taking the lamp out nad in again, that way tv will detect there is a new lamp. If not.

It turns out that the number of red lights flashing, relates to a partiuclar error problem. My TV was flashing 4 red lights, pausing , then flashing again etc etc. This particular error meant that one of the five fans within the TV box had stopped funtioning. So the TV has gone to the repairman today. I was advised by an operator at the SONY STYLE CENTRE that such a repair would be considered as a genuine fault and that SONY would pick up the tab. I live in hope
