Suddenly have voice mail messages on handset (beeping before dial tone) when hooked to external voice message machine. I am using Vonage as my company.Panasonic hands free hooked to 4 handsets. Model is KX tg-5621

If there are new voicemail messages, likely you will hear "stutter tone" followed by dial tone when you raise or use the handset. If you don't hear stutter tone, then likely messages in your provider voice mail service have been marked read and therefor no new voicemail indicator.

If you cleared voice mail indication on your RS 43-325 phone, voicemail indicators will remain off until the next new voice mail message is recieved.

I want to make sure I understand this completely. You get no dial tone from the fax machine when hooked up to VOIP. In the past, was there an audible dial tone from the fax, or did it just dial silently and give you an error if there was no tone? When you said you got a dial tone by connecting a phone to the ext phone port of "the machine" did you mean the fax machine? If you get a dial tone by running a phone through the fax machine, then the line is good. I have used a fax machine over Sunrocket before they went defunct, which used the same technology base as Vonage - so it should work. If you used to get an audible dial tone when using the fax, and no longer do, and you are geting a dial tone on a regular phone that is connected to the ext. port of the fax machine, then the problem has to be in the fax machine itself, not the VOIP. If you can verify that, we can go from there.

If you want to delete the actual voice mails, you have to go through your phone company (using their keypad commands) since voice mail is only accessible through your phone (but the voice mail messages are stored through your phone company provider).

Using the Voice Mail Service If you subscribe to a voice mail service, you can use your phone to access your voice mailbox. The new message LED on the handset ?ashes and VM appears in the handset display whenever you have messages waiting in yourvoice mailbox. When you subscribe to the service, your voice mail provider provides you with the access number and the required voice mail signaling tone. You can use your phonebook to store the access number.

Resetting the Voice Message Waiting Indicator

When you receive a new voice mail message, the new message LED on the top of the handset ?ashes and
appears in the handset display. In the event your message alert tone gets out of sync with your phone company's voice messaging system, you can reset back to its original "no messages waiting" state. To reset, press and hold [?nd hs] on the base for ?ve seconds. A beep sounds and the message alert tone is reset.

voice messaging system, you can manually reset it back to the "No messages waiting" state.
1. Press and hold FiND on the base for five seconds.
Note: The handsets connected to the base will start to beep, however, keep pressing for five seconds.
2. A beep sounds and the message alert tone is reset.
Changing the dial mode
Your phone can communicate with the telephone network in two different ways: tone dialing or pulse dialing. These days, most base networks use a method called tone dialing, so your phone comes programmed for tone dialing. If your phone company uses pulse dialing, you will need to change your phone's dial mode. If you don't get a dial tone or can't connect to the telephone network, please follow the steps below to modify your phone's settings:
1. Press MENU/SELECT.
2. Select the Global Setup menu, and then the Dial Mode submenu.
3. Scroll to highlight Pulse.
4. Press MENU/SELECT. You will hear a confirmation tone.
If you ever need to change the dial mode back to tone dialing, follow the same procedure, but select Tone in step 3.

Most of the time your home phone service has a digital voice mail like your cell phone does. If the answering machine is set for an amount of rings that is too long the digital voice mail service will answer before your machine. The new cordless phone indicators do show messages on your digital voice mail as well as the answering machine. Depending on your home service, most of the time when you press talk and you hear a different non standard dial tone(mine pulses 3 times before going to solid dial tone) you have a digital message. You need to delete this message before the indicator light will stop flashing. Then set up you digital voice mail for a longer pickup time! This should get rid of this problem.

Called GE. Here's what's happening (at least with my phone). I use VONAGE as a carrier. VONAGE's package includes voicemail. I have my VONAGE voicemail account set up to take any call that comes in if the answering machine on my GE phone does not pick up -- for instance if I'm on the phone and I do not "flash" over to the incoming call, that caller will eventually be sent to my VONAGE voicemail where they can leave a message. (Otherwise I would either take the call, or, if not already in use, the GE phone/answering system would simpy take the message.) This GE phone is commucating with my VONAGE account and letting me know that I have a mesage in my VONAGE account voicemail. All I have to do is either go online and delete the messages (after listening to them of course) and refresh the page. Once the messsages are deleted, the carrier lets my phone know the messages are gone and the NEW VOICE MAIL prompt on the handset disappears. I suppose I can do it by listening to the messages by calling in and deleting through the touch pad on the phone as well

I resolved the problem but I'm not 100% sure of how I did it. If it happens again I'll try it again. I left the answering machine OFF so the Voice Mail would take any messages. A friend phoned and left a message in the VOICE MAIL, I knew this because of the broken dial tone when I went to make a call. When I erased his message the 'New Voice Message' displayed on the handset disappeared. I figure a previous caller hung up just after the voice mail picked up. It was not long enough so it did not register in the voice mail but somehow registered on the GE phone. Since there wasn't anything registered in the VOICE MAIL to erase the message was 'stuck' on the handset display. As soon as there was a message registered in the VOICE MAIL that could be erased it also cleared the message on the handset.

As i mentioned, if it happens again I'll try it to see if it works, until then I am not going to tempt fate.

Press down the "find handset" button until the paging beep stops (about 5 seconds) and this will reset the indicator lights on the handsets.

I have FiOs and used some of the info I gathered from this page to get my voice mail working now! To set up my voice mail I called my phone number (from the house phone), then pressed * when the automated system picked up...Your prompted to use a 4 digit pass code, which is the last 4 digits of your phone number (worked for me). From there I listened to the prompts and created a new "4 digit pw" as well as a "name password" by the end of the cycle. It then allowed me to listen to the messages on the phone and delete them! Phone finally says ready on it.

This is usually an indication that a phone is off the hook somewhere in the building. Hook up a regular phone to the wall jack that the fax is hooked up to now. Check to see that you have a dial tone. If not, then the problem is somewhere else. Hope that's it Ed
