SOURCE: WD Hard Drive Not Detecting

Yes, this can be done via the user web interface, by typing in mybookworld or wdstorage into the web browser and the shared storage manager should come up. If you go to general setup there should be an option to update network settings.

I plug in my WD external hard drive, i hear the chime saying the computer knows i plugged something in, but i see no icon to click on to open it. HELP! i have soooooo much information on this thing!

- try plug in a normal usb port (usb2)

- try open up the device manager, look for your WD and delete it.
then unplug and plug back.

try goto control panels->administrative tools->computer management->disk management
and see if your wd appears there. if yes, try change the drive letter assignment.

My new WD 320 GB external drive won't detect in my pc and laptop? pls help....

Hello there,

Please try to plug it into another USB port. There is a chance that your port could be faulty. If its not with the port, try to assign the drive letter if you are using windows. You have to right click on the My Computer icon, select Manage. Once on Computer Management, select Disk Management. Locate your WD drive and right click again. Finally, click on the Assign Drive Letter and follow the wizard.

Good luck!

My wd elements external hd is not recognized under windows 7. The pc diagnostics say that the device is working properly and the correct drivers are installed?

Go to Administrative Tools in Control Panel. Computer Management then Storage, Disk Management. You'll probably have to recognise it and assign a drive number.

How to access my WD ebook locally to store information??

Try and map it, by right clicking on 'my computer' and select 'map network drive'. In the folder option type: \\**ip address**\public (where **ipa address** needs to be the ip address assigned by your router or one of the 2 default names: mybookworld or wdstorage. If you have previously changed to name of the NAS drive, use the name you assigned.

I've been using my WD external for a while with no issues. Yesterday turned it on and it isn't recognised by any of my computers, is there anyway of fixing this without losing data?

If your PC will recognize the drive and give it a drive letter, you can run chkdsk (Check Disk) from the Run prompt to verify that the drive does not have damaged sectors. many times chkdsk will fix minor errors allowing you to access the drive again.
Click Start, Run CMD, enter, then type: X: (X being the drive letter of the Seagate) then type chkdsk /r and hit enter. If it completes 100% try accessing the drive again.
If you cannot acquire a drive Letter when you plug in the WD External try going to Disk Management and assigning a drive letter.
Click Start, then Right click on My Computer and click Manage, then click Disk Management. See if your WD drive shows up in the list. If it does, right click on the larger box on the right and see if it will allow you to assign a drive letter.

Another option you may have is taking the hard drive out of the WD External enclosure and either connecting it as a secondary drive in a desktop PC, or installing it into another external enclsure USB device, and try again to access the drive.

If none of these options work, your last option is to contract a Disk Recovery Service to acquire your data. They are usually very expensive.

Wd and Seagate usb hard drives attached to computer Will not boot when WD usb hd on Seagate makes no difference

Check the drive letter assignment for the disks, and make sure it is not the C: driver.
I am assuming you can boot and then plug the disk, right?
So use the Disk Manager to check the driver letter, and change it if it is conflicting with another disk.
