Black smudges down left side of page

How do I clean white or black spots on printed documents? Description: First make 10 to 15 copies of a blank, white sheet of paper.
If you still see the spots on printed documents after making multiple copies, clean the drum unit as follows:

  1. Remove the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly, and then remove the toner cartridge from the drum unit.
  2. Position the print sample in front of the drum unit so you will know the exact position on the drum that is causing the poor print.
  3. all-ug-19.gif
  4. Turn the black gear on the drum as you check the surface of the OPC drum.
The OPC drum is photosensitive so do not touch it with your fingers.
  5. all-ug-20.gif
  6. When you find the substance on the drum surface that matches the print sample, gently dab the surface of the OPC drum with a cotton swab that is lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol.
  7. Note
      • Do not use a scrubbing or wiping motion because this might damage the drum.

      • Do not try to clean the surface of the OPC drum with a sharp object, such as a ball-point pen, because this might cause permanent damage to the drum unit.
  8. If the print quality still has not improved you need to install a new drum.

Brother not printing

Hi John, the machine keeps asking you to clean the corona wire because on start up or especialy when the machine readies it's self to start printing, it passes a voltage through the corona wire which helps the drum erase the charge on the organic photo compound the drum is covered in.
If the machine sees any problem with the transfer of this voltage it thinks there is a problem.
The corona wire can be cleaned by sliding the blue tab on the top of the drum from right to left a few times.
You should check to see if this wire is broken ..it a very thin wire about the thickness of a human hair, if the wire is not broken then try cleaning the thin metal grid below the corona wire with a cotton bud , being carefull not to break the wire.
If this doesnt work then it sounds like the high voltage connection on the drum is faulty, and you will need to purchase a new drum ( or take it back to the supplier and say it is faulty and you want it replaced).
You ould also clean the surface of the drum itself carefully with a soft DRY clean cloth.
The only other cause is the high voltage supply pcb is faulty. Which if the machine is out of warranty is prohibitavely expensive to repair.

Hope this helps

Since replacing the fusing unit on my Magicolor 2530DL, I am getting very light prints. Can you give me some ideas about how to resolve this?

faint prints wont be from the fuser. if u can physically rub the image off the paper with your hand then your fuser is faulty. check condition of the drum unit. if a new drum doesnt fix this then u have a dirty laser which will need a tech to clean.

Oki c5150 wont print black

First, clean the LED heads with a lint free cloth and isopropyl alcohol (the LED heads are the attachments on the underside of the lid when you open your printer; four of them for each color). Try printing something after doing that. If it's still an issue just with black, try switching the black and magenta drums/toner (keeping them locked together). The drum w/ toner cartridge simply pulls straight up and out, no switches or locks to flip. Then print a page of text; which will output from the printer in magenta. If that looks okay, then it may be an issue with your black drum and needs to be replaced.

Improve print quality

If you have changed drum AND toner, and reset drum count, cleaned scan slit glass on lit then only other thing to clean that can cause dirty prints is laser glass, (remove drum, inside where drum goes there is a slit the rund width of printer on inside middle "ceiling"

The orange piece I take it is the lower heat roller at rear, cleaning this is not going to fix anything.. this area called the fuser sometimes the fuser wears the coating off the upper heat roller (above orange one) and leaves like a smudge mark on prints, like I say cleaning wont fix replacingfuser with new would be what is required

I find a lot of grey shading on prints on this model are from faulty toner cartridges, next is drum then worn fuser roller... Stop a print half way (timing) in machine remove drum and look at print, after drum but pre fuser ,to see if image is ok before entering fuser, then we know if that is your problem
