Water leak from top drum area of washer

I have a LG Front Load washing machine and water is leaking from the top of the drum unit and running down the side when fresh water is being introduced through the attached water lines. The water lines are not leaking and we've pulled the back panel to detect this particular leak. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I found the problem when I removed the top cover of the washing machine and the boot seal at the top has a split in it. Will try and find a replacement. Thanks

this could be a drain hose loose or broken if the leak only occurs during rinse. If it leaks all the time, could be a broken outer drum or worn tub seal.
Hold inner drum and turn bothways. If it turns bothways, you have a bad bearing, and hence, a bad tub seal. If it turns in one direction only, bearing's good; but tub seal could still be bad.

SOURCE: lg front load washer leaking from bottom of machine

I just fixed this problem - there is a rubber hose that hooks the bottom of the drum to the drain and recycle pumps - it is ribbed and it developed a hole. To confirm and repair (repair can be done from the front of the machine)

  1. Unplug the machine.
  2. Drain whatever water you can from the machine using the stoppered hose behind the bottom left panel
  3. Unscrew the visible screw holding the plastic in place near the drain hose and filter
  4. If you can pull the plastic recessed piece out, there is one screw visible behind it - unswcrew this. If you cannot pull it out now, you should be able to get it after you remove the screws in step 10
  5. Pull out the detergent drawer (push in the middle back "botton" to release the drawer to pull out fully)
  6. Unscrew two screws in the drawer area.
  7. Pull the top of the electronics assembly away from the machine and lift the assembly out (place on top of the machine or hook it out of the way)
  8. Open the door and remove the spring loaded wire around the door seal (be careful as the seal can be torn)
  9. Pull the seal away from the metal front panel, then close the door
  10. Remove four screws at the top of the front panel (that were behind the eletronics assembly) - If you already have removed the screw from step 4, proceed, otherwise lean the top of front panel out and pop the plastic out, hold panel in place and remove that bottom screw from step 4.
  11. Lift front panel about two inches, swing the entire front panel to the right and set against something - You should now be able to see inside the machine.
  12. There is a black hose right in the middle - when I squeezed mine a little, I could see where the water was dripping out from the bottom.
  13. There are three clamps - two that can be squeezed with pliers and removed, one that has to be unscrewed (phillips head screw - it is a bit blind as the screw faces the back of the machine) - Once I got mine off - I could see the hole.
  14. Order replacement and reassmble in the opposite order

SOURCE: LG WM2487 Leak Front Left

Not sure if this machine is similar to the WM2277, but here is the procedure for that - my leak was in the "baffels" hose that connects the drum to the drain pump:

1. Drain the machine - pry the panel at the front left lower corner to get access to a stoppered tube. drain as much water from here as possible.
2. Remove screw visible inside this area and remove the white molded plastic - also remove the screw behind that plastic.
3. Open the washer door and remove the spring loaded wire around the door gasket. Carefully pull the door gasket away from the panel push inside and then reclose the door.
4. Remove the detergent drawer and the two screws visible behind it.
5. Pull the top of the electronics panel away from the machine and lift up - place on top of machine or hook it out of the way
6 Remove the 4 screws that are visible holding the front panel to the machine. Left the entire front panel up about 2 inches and swing to the right (there is a wire connecting the door to the machine on the right)

SOURCE: My LG front loader is washer leaking water.

Could be the bladder from the drum to the door of the door seal. It could also be the drain pump hose.

SOURCE: LG wm2101hw 4.0 cu.ft front load washer is leaking

same problem. LG stated I am using too much soap. Cant be because it still does it with no soap. Also have issues with spinning on bed comforter and also drum will not drain. I can wring out a 16oz of water from a cotton shirt sitting in the bottom of drum when completed. Floor is flooded and I am **********. Bought in April 2010 and have had 4 techs out to look at it, but there is no problem. Biggest waste of 600 I ever spent.

Hello ! I have the LG wm2277hs washer machine. the problem that we are having right now is the water leaked after washing. Pleaase show me how to trouble shoot that, thanks

Hi

The water leaking on floor can be a serious issue as this may cause the inside parts to malfunction or in some cases rusting of the body. To check where exactly it is leaking; inspect the leak while it is running. After the cycle is complete quickly turn off the power, lie down the machine on left/right side and check from where the water is leaking. If it is the hose or drain pump then check whether hose is connected firmly and is not cut. If it not the hose/pump inspect if the leak is on the drum corner or anywhere back of the drum. However, if it is leaking from the circumference then it is due to transmission seal. To replace the transmission seal you'll need to disassemble the washer and the drum assembly.

Please post back in case of any issues. Hope this helps...

My lg washing machine model wm2277h is leaking water

these units have a variety of places they can leak from ...unfortunately you will have to gain access..the most common area for leaks in this model is down at the botoom around the drain pump area and or hoses..they spin so fast that all kinds of items can go thrrough the system a pierce the hoses or shatter the pump assembly... gain access to the bottom of unit and run a small load cycle and watch it you should be able to locate the problem and buy your replacement part on line .. good luck hope this helps....

First ck to see if your water pump is leaking. It normally leaks when the machine is running not just filling. Also look at all the attaching rubber hoses under the machine and see if water is leaking down the back right side of the machine and then running around the frame to the front long shot but possible.

Admiral Leaking

Possibly rinsing with cold water, washing with hot.
Check inlet valves for leaks, especially cold (rinse)
Lift the top panel by inserting a flat blade approx 4" from each side at the front to release clips, then top will hinge backwards.
You can see the valves at the rear behind the drum..
You can run the machine with top lifted to see any more leaks.
Also remove front panel via 2 small screws to gain better view.
