This sounds like the compressor has failed. With AC in on position the compressor clutch should engage/disengage periodically while turning. A couple things to check before replacing this is the following.

1)Check the fuse panel to ensure there is power getting to that part of the sysem.

2)Check the wiring harness itself and make sure the connection is tight, free of dirt, debris and is in good shape.

If those two are okay, I would replace compressor and recharge the system and it should work properly.

Windows xp? Then hit Start, Programs,highlight and select System Recovery. Ignore warnings and go straight to Advanced, Select Quick Format. Ignore warnings and hit Select or Ok. Sysem Recovery will wipe and restore factory settings. You will then need to re-install all software such as Email, Office etc.

The sending unit is most likley bad.Its located in the gas tank with the fuel pump assembely.The assembely needs to be replaced.

boot up the pc but keep pressing F8, this will start you in safe mode screen. When the options come up choose last known good configuration and let it reboot. You should now get into windows, if not then the system files will need repairing using you XP cd, so you will need to set your bios by pressing F2 or Del on boot up, select advanced cmos settings and change your cdrom to first boot device and then save and exit, insert your cd then when prompted hit enter to boot from cd. When the installation files have installed press R for repair and not install as none of your files or docs or settings will be lost if you just press R for repair
