Dell precision 530 bios ssd

My crazy idea to upgrade our antique Dell Precision Workstation 530 MT with a Transcend 128GB PATA SSD (TS128GPSD330) failed because BIOS (A11) does not recognize it as disk (unknown device). There is no other disk on that cable and Master/Slave does not make any difference. Any ideas?

Ok, I found something. Looking over the older version of the BIOS, I found this

For BIOS A08 and under fixes it states:
"11. Fixed issue with UNKNOWN devices in System Setup for IDE devices.
If a failure occurs, now check the second IDE cable for devices."

Can you possibly try connecting the SSD to another port (or maybe switch it with the CD-ROM)?

You can also try it with an older bios, either A08 or previous.

Please feel free to contact me if I can help in any way.

The SSD may just be broken I think. Whenever I connected it to a cable, not even the SSD itself is unknown, also the other device on the same cable disapeared. I returned the disk to my supplier. Thank you anyway.

This is a little bit long shot, but check also if there is an updated firmware for the SSD (you will need access to another machine in order to upgrade it). I will look up if I find either a bios for the Dell that is working or another solution

SOURCE: Boot a Sony DVD RW DRU-840A drive in DELL precision 530

Have you tried changing the boot order.

If you're trying to use it as a boot device you need to tell the system to boot the cd /dvd drive FIRST and of course you need to have a bootable cd / dvd in the drive.

Let me know if you're already tried this.

Have purchased 512GB Crucial m4 2.5" SSD for my dell precision t7500 work station will it be working

make sure that your Dell's specs are in line with this drive. if you buy memory or hardware that is newer than the machine it is made for, chances are the technologies will not work together. so you should only replace hardware that is(will) compatible with the generation of PC you put it in.
